"Jeff is an amazing carpenter and cabinet maker. My older home had crooked subfloors, walls and ceilings yet he was able to figure it out and deliver an excellent finished product. While many push touch ups to painters, costing you more, Jeff delivered a completely finished product that far exceeded my expectations. I would not hire anyone else for cabinets."

"Tara, Paul, and their team did a wonderful job on my den parquet, so I hired them again for my oak floor refinish in the kitchen and hallway. They came for estimates quickly and communicated well with me. Paul made an extra trip to solve some problems with the flooring that were revealed after the cabinets were demo-ed. The installers were very efficient and worked quickly. The outcome is absolutely perfect! ( Also, they were very patient with delays due to the cabinet supply chain issues)."

"The cabinets are beautiful, functional and just what I wanted. Everyone that sees them just loves them. The workers were great.....they even came back and did adjustments without me asking. The counter top guys said that the cupboards were so level they didn't need a single shim. That's top quality work."

"Alex was hired by our General contractor to do our cabinet design. He did the order for us; cabinets are actually from Sollid Cabinets in Arizona. All was good except we went to ceiling height cabinets rather than the standard ones we had which had a soffit above them. For the above microwave cabinet (above the stove) the cabinet ordered was the same msmst as when we had the soffit. We, through our GC and her project manager, have been trying to get a new special order cabinet ordered. He has not been returning phone calls. This has been going on for a couple weeks now. Because of this poor communication, I would not give a 5-Star rating. And Alex, if you read this, can you please get back to us???"

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

It is cheaper to paint kitchen cabinets than to replace them. Painting costs range from $400 to $1,300, based on the size and complexity of the project and the average costs in your area. In contrast, replacing kitchen cabinets can cost several thousand dollars, including materials, installation, and potential modifications to countertops and plumbing.

There are some tips when hiring a cabinet installer that’ll help prepare you to create a new space. When installing new cabinets, keep the following in mind:

  • Hire the same cabinet installer professional to measure, design, and install the cabinets, as opposed to jumping between companies.

  • Discuss what types of cabinets the installer offers, including stock, semi-custom, and custom, to give yourself options.

  • Discuss financing options with your installer, as this project can be expensive depending on your chosen cabinets.

  • Discuss your cabinet installer’s prior experience, including asking for photos of previous projects.

Pre-made cabinets are cost-effective, readily available, and come in various styles and finishes.

The 1/3 rule is a design guideline used by interior designers and cabinet installers to select appropriately sized pulls for cabinets and drawers. The rule suggests that for a balanced and cohesive look, a cabinet pull should be approximately one-third the height of the cabinet door or one-third the width of the drawer face. This guideline helps create a symmetrical appearance because the human eye tends to follow the length of the pull across the cabinet face.

While the 1/3 rule is a helpful starting point, it is not the only option. If a measurement falls between available pull sizes, it's generally best to size up. For an ultra-contemporary aesthetic, you can also opt for full-width pulls that span the entire drawer.

Some municipalities require permits for wall-mounted furniture installations, particularly when structural modifications are necessary. Always make sure to check local building codes before starting your Murphy bed installation project. Your Murphy bed installer will be familiar with local codes and handle the permitting process, ensuring your project complies with all relevant regulations.
