I have been a handyman for over 10 years. Prior to that, I was an automotive technician for several years and a bicycle mechanic for 15 years. I do basic home repairs and upgrades, basic electrical, basic plumbing, carpentry, furniture assembly, TV mounts, hauling/ trash removal, and more. I provide fair estimates, always show up on time, and my communication is great. I love what I do and take great pride in my work.

"I didn't know what "category" of those listed for this review to place them - so I chose Landscaping. It could have been Electrical, too, because the job they did for me was installing Christmas lights on my house. I had existing lights that had been poorly spliced by someone else. They repaired the poor work (removing the splices), replaced the broken bulbs, and helped my neighbor with her lights - as a favor - without extra charge. They work as a team of two men - and between the two have twelve years combined experience of installing Christmas lights. More... Much more... They were knowledgeable, professional, honest, kind, and did a great job. The price they charged was less than the others I had checked on. They promised to come back to fix any lights that might go out - but none have gone out! And taking the lights down in January is part of their complete service. They did an excellent job! I will definitely be having them back each year!"

"I hired abc junk removal initially to remove an old refrigerator from my garage. When Nate arrived he quickly got to work and had the refrigerator in his trailer within 5 minutes. His professionalism is outstanding. After I had paid him and he was on his way he noticed some limbs I had laid by the road and offered to take them at no extra charge. I said sure and asked if he would take the limbs that were scattered across my backyard if I paid more. He gave me a fair price for the limbs removal as well and had my yard clean within 30 minutes I definitely will be calling him again, and I highly recommend his services"

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Hiring a professional for holiday decorating, especially for hanging lights, is often well worth the investment for several reasons. A key benefit is safety; if you are physically unable to hang lights due to injury, or if your home has multiple stories or other high places that pose a safety hazard, a professional can handle the job securely. They also have the expertise to assess your electrical system to ensure it can handle the load. Hiring a pro is also a great option for homeowners who lack the time or capability to decorate. Professionals can create a stylish, chic, and upscale look that will wow your guests, and they may even save you money on decor. Finally, many holiday lighting experts include maintenance and repairs as part of their rates, ensuring your display looks great throughout the season without any extra effort on your part.

Christmas lights typically do not need to be grounded like electrical circuits in your home do. However, it's crucial to use outdoor outlets equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) for added safety. GFCIs can help protect against electrical shocks and are recommended for outdoor electrical connections when using Christmas lights.

During the holidays, big box hardware stores sell many kinds of clips and hooks made specifically for hanging Christmas lights—including ridge clips, gutter clips, shingle clips, and mounted hooks. It’s best to avoid nails, staples, and screws since they can damage your roof.

If you only need strands in safe and easy-to-reach locations and are sure of your electrical system, you can probably purchase and install lights yourself. To do this, carefully test your outlets to ensure there aren’t any sparks or other concerning issues. Your budget might also influence this decision, as going the DIY route can be significantly cheaper.

It’s not a good idea to mix LED and incandescent Christmas lights if you can avoid it. LEDs and incandescents can have significantly different electrical current needs. This difference can lead to a higher risk of problems and failure for both light strands. When possible, switch all your lights over to one kind or the other for the best results. Do not connect the different types of light strings to each other, and avoid linking them to the same circuit.
