"Billy was great. He was quick and efficient, but I noticed him taking his time to ensure the work was the highest quality it could. A few of my windows were very dirty and still had construction grime stuck to them. I was able to talk with Billy and have a great conversation. I felt that Billy cared about what he was doing for me and my family. I will refer Billy to all my friends, and use him anytime I can."

"I learned so much working with Aaron and team. He came recommended from my friends and I cannot be more satisifed with the process. His team installed insulation, a radiant barrier and new doors and windows. It has made an immediate difference. Aaron was extremely communicative, very helpful, and trustworthy throughout the entire process. His team got here quickly, worked hard, and was very respectful throughout the house. It is the first contractor team that cleaned up after themselves! It was definitely the details from the estimate to the execution - over delivered."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes, you absolutely need a permit to add a window to your house. Your contractor can likely obtain this permit on your behalf. Ask about this when getting quotes from multiple window contractors.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

To ensure the longevity and smooth functioning of new windows, regular maintenance is essential. This includes cleaning the glass and frames, inspecting seals for leaks or damage, and reapplying caulking as needed. It is also important to lubricate all moving parts and operating mechanisms to ensure they continue to operate smoothly.

One of the best professional cleaning solutions that won’t leave streaks is one gallon of distilled or bottled water mixed with 2 to 4 teaspoons of dish soap. Apply using a sponge in a figure-eight motion, and then use a squeegee to remove the majority of the water and soap. You can finish drying with a piece of old black-and-white newspaper to remove any residue for a streak-free clean every time.

Window replacement is typically always worth the cost, both from a money-saving standpoint and a comfort standpoint. If your windows are older and significantly damaged, a window replacement can actually save you money in the long term by improving energy efficiency. If your windows aren’t up to code, you may not really have a choice.
