"Israel and his coworker installed 2 ceiling fans, provided a new outlet, installed a ring doorbell and routed some coax. He was available faster than I expected and was very professional and thorough. The price was very good and I am very happy with the work - I highly recommend them!"

"KRAZ Electric was great. They were the first to reply and set an appointment with me the same day. I received a text message letting me know they were meeting with me at the scheduled time, and Ryan arrived right on time. He was thorough, and narrowed the problem down fairly quickly. Despite not being 100% sure, it turned out that his original assessment of where the problem originated was spot on. The City came out, made a couple of adjustments and my problem was solved. Ryan happened to still be at my residence with the City arrived, so he stuck around and made sure the workers were aware of what he assessed as the problem and stayed until they were wrapping up. I really appreciated his interest in making sure the City didn't put me off or tell me something different. Ryan was great."

"Scott helped us with rewiring our lights in our swimming pool and also helped us with other electrical issues in our old home. Scott is a total pro and knows his stuff. We will definitely call him whenever we have electrical projects in our home and are planning to have him help us with some design projects in the near future."

"We were very happy with how well the back-up system was installed, and their quick response for a call for additional help. This is the second review I have given of the service of Mr. Electric. My first response was more detailed."

"I received a call from them to talk about my project to install an electric vehicle charging outlet at 10:45 am. They came to my home at 12:30 to give a bid. The bid was very reasonable, did the work immediately and was done by 3:30 that afternoon. Amazing job very well-done, very professional. Will definitely use them again, and will recommend them to anyone!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, it is not safe to use an outlet that sparked. A spark from an outlet could indicate a short circuit, loose or frayed wiring, or other serious damage. Continuing to use an outlet that sparks can increase the risk of electrical shock, electrical fires, and other hazards. It's important to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker if possible and avoid using the outlet until a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it.

It’s possible to distinguish a positive black wire from a negative black wire if you know what type of circuit the wires are in. If it’s an alternating current (AC), then black wires are positive. If it’s a direct current (DC), then black wires are negative.

Sometimes, a circuit has two black wires. In that case, the positive black wire will be solid black while the negative black wire will have a white stripe on it. If you’re still unsure, you can use a multimeter to check.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

For most applications, you won’t need a neutral for 240V. There are certain codes and regulations that differ between areas so just because you technically may not need one in order for the device to function properly, it may still be a local requirement. Professionals in your area know the requirements, which is just another reason to hire one instead of taking on a project that is frankly not very DIY-friendly.

The life expectancy of a home electrical panel is typically around 25 to 40 years. However, this can vary based on usage, maintenance, and technological advancements. Regular inspections by a qualified electrician can help determine the condition and potential need for replacement as your panel ages. Factors like overloading, outdated components, or wear and tear might prompt earlier replacements for safety and efficiency reasons.
