"No question about it, Deck-O-Art is an excellent hardscape contractor. My project included a completely new drainage system for my backyard that ties into the pool deck. This drainage project solves a decades old water penetration issue at my house. Phase 2 was a complete and total renovation of my 40,000-gallon pool, including deck equipment, electrical, etc. Finally, my circular driveway was renovated from pea gravel to beautiful tile pavers, that included concrete dividers that really make it pop. The final result was so outstanding, that I hired Deck-O-Art to renovate a second pool and outdoor kitchen at our country getaway home. I thought that they couldn't beat what they constructed at my main house, but I was wrong. It is simply beautiful, and the new upsized outdoor kitchen is fantastic. Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it. 

Oil-based sealers generally offer longer results for driveways in cold climates. If you experience extreme temperatures, oil sealants offer a level of flexibility that makes them expand and contract along with the freeze-thaw cycle instead of cracking.

There are more pros than cons, but there are a few disadvantages to sealing your driveway to be aware of. Sealant can make the surface slippery, which can be a hazard, especially when the driveway gets wet. Look for sealants with abrasive additives to help counteract this. You’ll also need to remember to reapply your sealant every two years and budget for the expense that comes with it.

You should always power wash your driveway before applying a sealant. At any given time, your driveway could be covered with algae and moss, tire residue, oil and rust stains, and any combination of leaves, twigs, and dirt. If you skip power washing, you’ll be trapping the dirt and grime beneath the sealant and lowering its chance of cementing itself to your driveway. While you can expect the cost to pressure wash your driveway to average between $100 and $350, the few hundred dollars beats an unattractive driveway or paying extra to reapply your driveway sealer.

To maintain your asphalt driveway, add a new coat of sealant every three to five years. Pricing varies, but you will pay about $0.08 to $0.50 per square foot from start to finish. You can also choose to add a fill-and-seal layer that includes a layer of aggregate to fortify a damaged top layer of asphalt.
