"Mr. Ed Wise at E-Tex Foundation Repair in Gladewater, Tx (903-331-3278) said the procedure would take a total of three days, told me everything that needed to be done, and kept in touch.  He called the day before to tell me they were coming out the next morning.   He and the crew were very friendly, and worked quickly, efficiently, and professionally.  After digging out four pier holes, they laid cement and left it to dry through the next day.  He called the next day and let me know when they were coming out on the third morning.  They arrived on time and jacked the slab to re-level and shimmed with solid concrete blocks and plate steel shims.  Ground areas that had been lost were filled in with dirt and well-packed, and concrete pieces and dirt stabilized my driveway.  Everything was cleaned up from the work area, and I was extremely happy with the results.  I would recommend this company of very friendly, very competent people to everyone I know.  With the work guaranteed (with a transferable warranty) for 30 years, I have nothing but the best to say about the people and the services rendered.  Excellent communication from Mr. Wise beginning with my first email to the company for a bid through the completion of the job!

"I would have hired them but unfortunately for them my house did not have a foundation problem. The owner and his rep both came to my house; they were very professional, knowledgeable and polite. They also gave me advise on what the problem could be and the contractor's contact information."

"They were great. I hired them to remove old insulation and install new insulation. They discovered serious issues with my a/c duct work. They rearranged their schedule to come back and make repairs to the ducts. They were lifesavers."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Spring and fall are the best seasons for masonry work in TX. Temperatures between 50 and 80 degrees provide the ideal environment for mortar to cure properly. Summer heat causes mortar to dry too quickly, which weakens the bond and increases cracking risks. Winter weather introduces unpredictable hard freezes that destroy fresh applications. Schedule your projects during moderate weather to ensure strong, durable results for your home.

Helpful?

Watch for white salt stains on your brick surfaces, which indicate moisture infiltration from heavy Texarkana rainfall. Inspect your foundation for stair-step cracks caused by shifting clay soils. You must also check for crumbling mortar joints and bowing walls. Following severe thunderstorms or winter freezes, schedule a thorough inspection of your chimney and exterior brick. Address these warning signs immediately to keep your masonry work safe and structurally sound.

Helpful?

The local climate and soil conditions heavily impact masonry work in Texarkana. Expansive clay soils shift with moisture, placing stress on foundations and retaining walls. High annual rainfall and periodic freeze-thaw cycles also cause cracking and spalling. To ensure lasting results, prioritize proper lot grading to direct water away from structures. You should also select a flexible mortar mix designed to withstand the heat and humidity of TX.

Helpful?

Apply a breathable sealer to protect your new masonry work from the high annual rainfall in Texarkana. Verify that your yard grading directs water at least six feet away from the foundation. Keep fresh mortar lightly misted and shaded during hot summer days to prevent premature drying. Finally, confirm your final permit inspections with local building departments and check your completed projects for damage after any hard winter freezes.

Helpful?

Start by inspecting your foundation and retaining walls for cracks caused by the shifting clay soils in TX. Next, evaluate your chimney for damaged crowns or spalled bricks resulting from past winter storms. You should also prioritize exterior brick repointing on older homes to stop moisture infiltration. Always verify that previous masonry work has the correct permits, and address any structural repairs immediately to protect your investment.
