Mr. Martinez did a good job removing a stump for us. He did a fine cut and there was very little clean up. Sometimes we have had stumps removed and there were larger chips and wood pieces left. More clean up to do. We were very pleased.

If the tree is short enough to easily reach the top branches, and the tree is far from power lines or structures, consider renting a chainsaw and removing it yourself. Not only is the work dangerous, but you could damage structures on your property in the process.

If a tree stump is removed properly, the chances of a tree growing back are low. However, if a tree has a robust root system, roots can sometimes sprout and someday grow into a tree. The chance of regrowth will depend on several factors such as the type of tree, soil quality, and strength of the root system. In general, it is not recommended to plant a tree where a stump was removed.

You’ll pay between $200 and $2,000 to hire a tree removal professional to cut down and remove a tree. The price difference depends on the size of the tree, its location and health, and any complexities that will affect removal, like a tricky location or proximity to your home.

If you have a strong back and a lot of patience, you can dig out a tree stump. You'll need to use a pointed shovel to dig out the soil around the stump, cutting away roots with a pair of clippers as you go. You’ve removed enough soil when you can access the taproot at the bottom of the root ball. After you cut that major artery with a saw or loppers, you should be able to roll the stump over and haul it away.

Salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, and burning can all help dissolve a tree stump. You can also bury the tree stump in soil or mulch to help it rot naturally. Killing a tree stump prevents future regrowth, but you may also remove it by digging it out or grinding it.
