"I contacted Steve O’Donnell with Genesis Landscaping Service because of positive Angie’s List reviews and was not disappointed.  I found Steve to be a professional who wanted to not just get the job done, but get it done right.
 
Steve and three workers handled the job in about six hours.  They began by scalping the weeds in the area to be sodded.  I had marked sprinkler heads, and none of them were damaged in the process.  Some dirt was brought in to cover where large tree roots had grown too far above ground.  They also cut away a long strip of ground along the sidewalk so that the new sod would be level with the walkway.
 
They then carefully placed each piece of sod into a specific position.  The sod borders were overlapped rather than being lined up in checkerboard fashion.  Sod pieces were cut to fit into place along the curve of the sidewalk and along one property border that runs at an angle.  Steve worked alongside the crew the entire time.
 
The result was that, when finished, it immediately looked like an established lawn.  People driving by would not have known it was newly-installed without looking very closely.
 
Before leaving, the sprinkler system was tested to make sure no heads were damaged or obstructed.
 
But there is more to the story.  I had originally contacted Steve and gotten an estimate for this project in the Spring.  Rather than just do the work, he recommended I first have the trees trimmed in order to provide better sunlight to the lawn.  And, no, Steve does not do tree trimming and did not make a referral to an associate who does.
 
By the time the tree trimming was completed, it was mid-May and temperatures were already consistently over 90 degrees.  I contacted Steve, and he agreed it would be better to wait until the summer heat was over as it would be risky to try to establish a new lawn at that time.  That was a big risk on his part as I may well have never called back.
 
Sod piece sizes are approximate.  There turned out to a shortage of about two pallets on my project, and the provider was not able to deliver more that day.  I had paid Genesis one-half in advance and the balance at the end of 10/3.  By that time, I was not worried they would leave the job incomplete.  They did indeed come back on 10/10 as promised and installed the remainder of the sod.
 
Based on my previous experiences with contractors, it is also good to note what did not occur in addition to what was actually done.  The crew was never left to work unsupervised.  They did not just throw the sod pieces down in order to get the job done more quickly but positioned each one carefully.  They came prepared to do the job with their own equipment, water, and food and did not need to borrow anything from us.  Steve knew what was to be done and never bothered us during the day.  My neighbors were not disturbed as the crew had their own headphones – no blaring boom box.
 
The best recommendation I can give is that I would not hesitate to use Genesis Landscaping again on future projects.
