"We have a rental property in Diana Texas and we live in Houston, so having RELIABLE trades that you can call and they will take care of things without you being there is very important. I used Scott once before and had no issues. However this second time, I called Scott to go to the rental property because the tenants were complaining of a lack of cooling. Scott went and topped off the Freon and reported everything was cooling good. Within 3 days the tenant notified me the unit was no better and only getting worse. At this point I called Alco Air, the original installers of the unit thinking it might be a warranty issue. They sent a technician out who went up into the attic and determined there was a bad refrigerant metering valve on the unit which is why it was not working. They would have to order a part and wouldn't be in until 4 days later. I texted Scott and he told me he could get the part, "no problem", and get it installed quicker, which was the most important decision since our tenants were without a/c. I cancelled the order with Alco and told Scott the work was his, just keep me informed. 4 days later, Scott said the part was on its way. 1 day after that Scott said he still had not received the part. Then, after I requested an update so I could at least let my tenant know something, Scott told me I should go back to Alco and use them! He said he was at the mercy of the supplier for the valve and couldn't do anything. I explained to him that I was at HIS mercy because I had cancelled Alco to use him because he assured me getting the part was no big deal. Then he shut down and did not answer any of our texts or calls. My wife called his office and asked them to get in touch with him to call her. When he called her, he told her he didn't need our business because I was rude to him and he had plenty of other business, and he was cancelling our order. I could post our text stream, but I don't believe that is necessary. My suspicion is that he forgot to order the part on the Friday I gave him the job, when at the time he said it would be no problem getting it. I don't know this, but I suspect it. I'm also curious why he didn't do more investigation into why the unit wasn't working, settling for just adding Freon and not checking for other issues. The Alco Air technician went into the attic and found the real problem immediately. My biggest shock in lack of professionalism is Scott's immediate decision to dump us and hang us out after we had cancelled the other ac company to use him. We were polite to both he and his office, (we're not yellers and screamers) - all we needed was an answer to our questions so we could keep our tenant informed."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

A water heater is one of the heaviest hitters in your home, and it needs as much power as possible to help it run efficiently and effectively.

Your water heater should be on its own dedicated circuit breaker, with no other power sources running to it. This is required to meet the National Electric Code–and to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible.

One of the primary benefits of a heat pump water heater is how cost-effective it is. How much you save will depend on your water usage and electricity costs. That being said, we can ballpark savings for the average home of between $100 and $500 per year. You can increase that savings rate by researching and applying available energy incentives available in your area. If you really want to focus on cost, consider a tankless water heater.

A larger heater requires a larger breaker—unless there’s one already installed. The longer answer to this question is more nuanced. Do you place demands on the heater at the same time as running other heavy-duty appliances like ovens and washing machines? Do you live in an older home that may not have considered the higher electrical demands we have now? Breakers need to be sized at 125% of the load. To find that load, you should call a local electrical pro.

Signs your electric water heater is failing include inconsistent water temperature, reduced hot water supply, longer heating times, or discolored water (rusty or cloudy). Unusual noises like popping or rumbling suggest sediment buildup, while leaks or corrosion around the tank signal structural damage. If your unit is over 10 to 15 years old and experiencing frequent issues, it may be time to replace it.

It takes between one and three hours to replace a hot water heater element, depending on whether you hire a pro or do the work yourself. For example, a professional plumber with all the necessary tools and experience can often finish the job in one to two hours, whereas DIY will take two to three hours because it'll involve more preparation and troubleshooting.
