I don't know if it's common practice in this field, but when the guys got there to do the work, they appeared as though they weren't actually employees of the company, but contract laborers that they were able to call up at the last minute. The guys said they were just going to replace the refrigerator faucet and the washer/dryer faucets rather than repair the leak. They were so casual about it, I assumed they were doing it for the same price that they quoted over the phone to repair the leaks, so I agreed to it thinking they were doing us a service, since they weren't up front by saying, "It will cost X amount more..."
With the shower handle, they broke the screw off in the hole while taking the handle off. At that time, they said it would cost a few hundred dollars to finish repairing it, so I told them to leave it alone.
So, to sum up our experience, they made arrangements to come out same day. That was good. However, once they got there, we were duped into letting them replace the faucets instead of just a simple repair of the leaks. They cut holes in the drywall that they didn't repair (which they didn't tell us they were going to do). They broke the shower handle completely off and didn't repair. The hundreds of dollars they quoted to fix the shower leak, I fixed myself for a total of $5.50. All in all, the ~$90 estimate we were given over the phone ended up costing us $400 and we still had to fix the other things they damaged.
"We call all our customers after the work is complete as a follow up call. Mr. [removed member name] work was done on 6/4/14 and we followed up on 6/5/14-his response was "all leaks fixed-no issues." Mr. [removed member name] indicated the work was performed on 6/9/14, then registered the complaint in December. We never heard anything negative from Mr. [removed member name] until we read his complaint on Angies List. I don't understand why his dates do not match our records and why the complaints occur six months after we are informed that there are no issues. When we received the call, we were booked for the day and due to a cancellation, we made room in the schedule to accommodate Mr. [removed member name]. The employees that showed up that day STILL work for me and showed up in my truck with all the proper lettering and advertising per state requirements. I don't understand the complaint regarding contract laborers. Our minimum service charge (at that time) was $99. Mr. [removed member name] had a list of (4) items to be performed that we would not estimate over the phone and certainly not less than our minimum service charge. I do not understand why Mr. [removed member name] is referring to a quote when nothing was quoted and the rate he remembers is less than our hourly rate. Mr. [removed member name] indicated we broke a screw off. This is not uncommon when you have older plumbing, cars, anything. We gave an estimate to replace the item which he instructed our plumber to wait for now and he would probably change the whole thing out later. It is true that some inexpensive repairs can be made with parts purchased at hardware stores that we will not perform (sometimes due to code changes, professional licensing, or simply warranty concerns). We cut a section of drywall out to access the piping under Mr. [removed member name] washing machine valves. This is standard practice. We do not perform drywall repairs. Most plumbing companies do not. I do apologize that Mr. [removed member name] experience with us was unsatisfactory. I don't understand some of his complaints, and some are just not factual. The repair would have probably been the same no matter which plumbing company he chose to use. If money was the issue, then Mr. [removed member name] should have contacted us right away and CERTAINLY NOT have indicated there are no issues when we do our follow up call."
