I do mobile repairs and the cost of interior parts has gone thru the roof and fixing the existing parts can make a lot of sense. I started repairing auto upholstery in DFW over 35 years ago. While I had requested a complete floor remodel, Joseph took the time to learn about what i was really trying to accomplish and suggested a big money saver and time saver by merely floating vinyl over our current hardwood floors that have the ability to be refinished if and when there is a time that no dogs will be living on the premises so that they don't get scratched again. When deciding whether to reupholster, repair, or replace old furniture, consider its age, level of wear and tear, and overall value. It’s usually better to repair old furniture because older pieces tend to be made out of hardwood, like oak and maple, whereas newer furniture is more often made out of plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other less durable materials. When determining whether it’s worth the price to repair a furniture item, calculate the price of buying a new, similar piece and compare that to quotes from local furniture repair services.

  • Push your fingernail into an inconspicuous section of the wood. If it doesn’t leave a dent, it’s likely hardwood and is well worth a repair.

  • Unzip the bottom of couches to look for the structural components. If they’re made of wood rather than particle board, it’s likely worth refinishing.
