"Gee, but we wish we had seen these reviews before contacting Executive Window Services to clean our windows in March of 2018. We have nothing but regret ... We had used Executive Window Services several times over the past 5 years and had mostly been pleased ... until this year. We are so displeased with our most recent experience that we have submitted a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau; have written a formal letter of complaint to Shane, who we believe is the owner – (can’t really tell) - but apparently is uninvolved in the business now; and are currently in discussions with an attorney trying to determine the best remedy for our situation. Not only was the window cleaning services marginal, but the charges for the service were double what we had been charged by Executive Window services in previous years. What was most odd/disturbing about this visit is ... without saying a word to us … in the middle of having our windows cleaned by a "one man crew" (David) ... two other men showed up and started measuring our windows, supposedly because “David" said we "needed to have 3 windows replaced". It was totally news to us. We were stunned. However, being conscientious homeowners, we wanted to do the responsible thing. So, we put down a deposit. Later that evening, we were confronted with an unrelated unplanned expense that we realized would prevent us from making window replacement a priority … so we immediately contacted "David" to cancel our order. Bottom line, David, the current "foreman/workman" (not really sure of his role entirely) owes us money for a window replacement order we canceled within 18 hours of putting down the deposit. After we canceled, our order, he told us he would return our check to us - no problem. But, he didn't return it, he cashed it! He gave countless excuses as to how that happened when we called him on it; he apologized; and then he promised to refund our money. As of this date, we have NOT received our refund, we have NOT heard back from David - nor have we heard from Shane. Neither has responded to our many phone calls, text messages, emails ... and now, the Better Business Bureau complaint. The biggest disappointment and watch out for any potential customer is ... David comes across as very charming and presents himself as a "caring" professional. Don't believe it. We will never do business with Executive Window Services again. Be warned."

"Lone Star did an exceptional job overall, providing professional results with professional people. They make no false claims and set no false expectations. What they say, is what they do. Showing up on time, measuring each and every window, consulting with me concerning best colors to coordinate with other exterior colors, and finally executing within the expected timeframes. No surprises, very affordable, with an excellent (lifetime) warranty. The products Lone Star uses are very effective. The temperature differences, and cost savings during the summer has been noticeable. West facing rooms, once abandoned at 4 in the afternoon due to solar loading, are now as comfortable as any other room in the house. Highly recommended."

"Install was easy. Up front cost was pretty low with Angie's List coupon. Monthly price is a little high compared to competing companies. Response time with alarms is excellent. I was advised to use glass break alarms within 10 ft of my first floor windows, which we installed correctly. I asked prior to installation if having one in the kitchen would cause false alarms due to dishes clanging, etc. I was told the glass break alarms are configured to a precise frequency that alarms with breaking glass. So, not a "no", but not really an answer. Well, every time we cook dinner, wash dishes or empty the dish washer, the kitchen glass break alarm gives a warning which would sound the alarm if it was set. This has caused us a number of false alarms while we've been away due to shifting bowls or plates in our drying rack. For the first several we've had to pay our police department $120 to check the house, and I was only notified after the first alarm that there was a cheaper option for a security company to drive by to check for a break in."

"They replaced the ole ADT system, which depended on a landline (phone) with a wireless system. The monitors on the windows are sensitive to shock, so if a window is broken, the alarm sounds. They monitors are small and do not require drilling into the window frames. I am very satisfied with the new system."

"Excellent experience!  They worked with us and the insurance company.  All questions were answered promptly.  They performed the job in 3 days as estimated.  They protected our property very well and best of all NO LEAKS!!!!!!!  I would highly recommend this company!

Update 01/22/13:This is an update in regard to the roofing job performed by this company a few months ago.  The roofing has still been excellent.  The problem came when we listed our home for sale.  It sold immediately and an inspection was performed.  Upon that inspection there were minor shingle issues discovered.  Those were taken care of immediately.  There were also two windows that had deep scratches due to shingles hitting them.  These windows were west facing and had interior 3m window tinting.  Mr. Nostrati had these windows inspected and agreed they were damaged from his crew.  He said they would be replaced and retinted.  It took in excess of 4 weeks to get the new glass installed.  During this period the company he used would not return phone calls (however they would answer when we repeatedly called them to follow up) and kept pushing the install date back.  Afterward we received a rather nasty email from Mr Nostrati informing us that he didn't believe he was responsible for the tinting since they didn't damage the inside glass and expected us to pay for those charges.  We responded to that email stating that we had offered to use our own vendor for the tinting initially but he insisted he would cover it.  He also stated that we gave him the wrong tint color (which we disagree with) and that the tinting done before installation had to be scraped off and replaced on site.  I've had glass replaced previously and retinted and I've never had it done this way, however, I'm not saying it can't be done.  After my husband responded to Mr. Nostrati's email informing him we would use our own company since it was an issue we received another nasty email pointing out his view of our character flaws.  Truthfully, I believe all of this is a misunderstanding since there were three parties involved.  My purpose in writing this update is that if you use this company get EVERYTHING (no matter how small or minor) in writing!  You should also submit all of your information to them in writing as well.  They do excellent work but follow up and warranty is seriously lacking and not handled as a priority.  I have never dealt with a company that attacked us personally.  That little bonus came as quite a shock!"

Window Tinting questions, answered by experts

Tinting your windows will make your house darker since it will prevent some sunlight from getting inside. While you can choose a window film that is on the lighter side, there will still be reduced sunlight. If natural light is important to you, tinted windows might not be the best choice for your home.

ENERGY STAR®-certified windows are the most energy-efficient windows on the market. This certification means that the window meets strict efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. While they might cost more upfront, they can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. ENERGY STAR®-certified windows lower household energy bills by an average of 12% annually.

The most energy-efficient windows are double—or triple-pane windows with low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings and gas fills between the panes. These windows reduce heat transfer, prevent drafts, and help maintain a consistent indoor temperature. But if replacing windows isn’t in your budget, pairing your existing windows with insulating window treatments can still make a noticeable difference in home comfort and monthly bills.

No, it isn’t necessary to have energy-efficient windows. However, if you care about your energy bill and making your windows more energy efficient, fixing any heat, UV, or air transfer issues is an excellent way to lower your bills and keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

You can easily and cheaply use tin foil or cardboard to black out your windows. Save a pretty penny by cutting either material to the size of your windows and taping it to the window. This is one of the easiest and most budget-friendly blackout solutions, but it definitely isn’t the most aesthetically friendly.
