Small jobs welcome

"They did great work. My bridge was impassable due recent flooding/ erosion. We were stranded at home. Unable to get out/across. Jose-Hernandez Brothers said it would be the following Tuesday (five days later) until he could do the job (this meant we would miss attending our Grandson's Graduation Party). However, due situation, they took time off to come out and make the repairs that Saturday. I would highly recommend Hernandez Brothers Tractor Work & Dump Truck Service not just for their great work, but character."

"This young man did an excellent job fixing my water draining in my front yard. His swells are very unnoticeable but effective and I think that’s what makes good excavation. I would’ve guessed he’s been doing this way longer that he told me. This man is barely getting started, thank you!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Maintain open communication and address issues as they arise, ensuring contract terms cover potential delays.

A perc test can take anywhere from one to eight hours to complete. The total time depends on factors like the amount of excavation required, the depth and width of the holes, and whether multiple test holes are needed. For a single hole, the process of filling it with water and monitoring the drainage rate usually takes less than an hour. Professionals can often complete the entire test in a single day. While it's possible to get results the same day, some companies may take a few days to provide the official report.

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

Some two-in-one tools and machines do both jobs, and those could be the right solution for smaller residential projects. However, the phrase “use the right tool for the job” definitely applies to digging. For the best results, get two separate tools for your trenching and landscape edging projects or call a pro to take care of everything for you.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.
