Your trusted North Texas partners for all your dirt work and forestry mulching needs. Veteran/Firefighter Owned and Operated

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Nogaj Land Company for forestry mulching, and I could not be more impressed with their professionalism and the quality of their work. The mulching process was completed efficiently transforming our overgrown property into a clean, manageable space. They took the time to assess the area thoroughly and made thoughtful recommendations on how to best approach the project. They exceeded my expectations in every way, delivering the work on time and within budget. I’ll definitely be calling them again for any future land clearing projects!"

"Met with Lance and Mike and they walked us through a new home site build with a pond and road. Our property bought all the neighbors water so there was lots of work to do. Ran into lots of ground water but they were quick on their feet to adapt and complete the project with a timely manner. They answered every question we had and responded quickly with updates and phone calls. Highly recommend."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

In most areas, you will need a permit for excavation work, even if the project only involves grading or yard leveling. Excavation permits help protect the topography in your area and can avoid issues with poor drainage. In most cases, your excavation company will know whether or not permits are required and will even pull them and close them out for you before and after the job. You can also verify whether permits are necessary by calling your local building department and explaining the proposed project.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

It all depends on the scope of the project. A trencher can certainly save time and energy, but you might not need to dig that deep in the first place. Aside from the depth of the trench, the quality of the soil matters. If it’s light, soft soil, you might try a shovel first. However, if the soil is rocky and hard or there are obstructions in it, like tree roots, a machine trencher might be the better option.
