Customers say: True professional

"Crosstown Engineering did a fantastic job. Steve was very professional, informative, arrived on time and did a thorough review. I hired Crosstown because I wanted an independent review from an engineer to see if my foundation required any repairs. Their report indicated that my foundation was performing and no repairs were needed at this time. I am so glad I had this review done rather than reach out to a foundation repair company who would likely have wanted to sell me something regardless of my need for repairs. I highly recommend Crosstown Engineering for a review before hiring any foundation repair company. They will provide a repair plan if you need one, and if you don’t, you will have the peace of mind that your foundation is ok."

"The Basement Kings finished their LARGE job this morning, and I can’t praise them enough! They had a long, difficult job, but no complaints. When they discovered a problem, they fixed it. No problem, that’s their job. They found the water problem had a lot to do with drainage, so they worked outside in cold & rain & developed a system to carry water away from the house. That, to me, was over & above, but they said their main objective was to get & keep the basement dry, so they did what they had to do with no complaints. Now you can’t ask for better than that - they give their all! I am totally amazed!!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

When hiring a structural engineer in San Antonio, prioritize professionals with experience in local building safety standards and a strong track record with foundation repair and structural assessments. Ask for references from recent projects, verify professional insurance coverage, and ensure clear communication throughout the process. Avoid hiring anyone lacking familiarity with San Antonio’s unique soil and climate or who cannot provide proof of recent, relevant experience.

Helpful?

Your San Antonio home may need structural engineering if you notice foundation cracks, sloping floors, or doors that stick—common signs of foundation movement in the area. Homes built before 1980, those with drainage challenges, or properties undergoing major renovations are especially good candidates. If your house is near a creek, on a slope, or in an older neighborhood, a professional structural assessment is highly recommended.

Helpful?

Before starting structural engineering work in San Antonio, review your property’s soil conditions, especially if expansive clay is present. Confirm whether your home is in a flood-prone area and check for any historic district guidelines. Notify your homeowners association and coordinate with utility companies if necessary. Set aside time for permit applications and inspections to help prevent unexpected project delays or complications.

Helpful?

In San Antonio, the timeline for structural engineering projects varies by scope: structural assessments or home inspections usually take 1-2 weeks; foundation repair design typically requires 2-4 weeks; and complex projects, such as residential additions, can take 4-8 weeks. Factors like permit approval, soil testing, and weather conditions can affect these estimates, so early planning helps keep your project on schedule.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in San Antonio offers immediate benefits like increased building safety and compliance with local codes, which is crucial in areas prone to severe weather. Over the long term, you’ll notice improved energy efficiency, reduced risk of foundation movement, and enhanced property value. These upgrades also help minimize future home repairs and make your property more attractive to buyers in the San Antonio real estate market.
