"Carlos did an excellent job installing 2 solar attic fans in my home attic and roof. He communicates quickly and very professional dealing with customers. When selecting the fans, I asked if he could review the ones I selected and he did a thorough review helping me purchase the right fan for my home. "Phil came and installed LED fluorescent ceiling lighting in our garage and in our house throughout. He also changed out three light switches and installed a surge protector on both of our fuse boxes. He was very polite, thorough and competent. The lady who answered the phone was very helpful. She made sure she understood what we needed and that someone was on their way to our house within a couple hours. We had some questions after Phil left, so we called the office and again they were extremely helpful. This company has excellent customer service and we would call them for any electrical need in the future."

"My first time working with Joe, but will definitely call him first for my next project. He was excellent about returning phone calls, was easy to schedule, and arrived on time, all things I value highly. He left the work site as clean as it was when he arrived and volunteered to dispose of the old ceiling fan, which was a big help. I've had other people install things in other homes and leave the ceiling and the fixture grubby with their fingerprints, but there's not a mark on either the new light or the drywall. It's been a trial to find real professionals in the trades around here, and I wish they were all as competent and alert as Joe and produced such quality work. I recommend him without reservation."

Ceiling Fans FAQs, answered by experts

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

Coffered ceilings often come with additional embellishments and accessories, including tin panels, medallions, trim, molding, recessed lights, and finials. Whether you’re looking for a simple grid pattern or want an elaborate, decorative ceiling with all the bells and whistles, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.
