"Checked all lines for leaks. None found. Drain pan still had water from Ian power outage that had not evaporated. We had turned off water because we were leaving for a couple of weeks after Ian and did not have time to deal with the problem at that time. After we got home we pulled the refrigerator out to turn water back on, the water in drain pan sloshed out. Hence small amount of water on floor. Just wanted it checked for problems. Showed up on time. Kept me informed of arrival time. Was professional and knowledgeable."

"Great! We thought our 2 year old dishwasher had died after a power outage but it was a loose connection. Tim the repairman checked a little black box and realized there was a connection loose, he tightened the screw and we are back up and running."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks and specialized equipment requirements. Hire professionals for effective clearing.

You should hire a sewer service professional to unclog a main sewer line with tree roots. Tree roots can grow into the main sewer line, and this problem requires a specialized hydro jet, or rooter, that is powerful enough to clear the roots. The tree can also damage the main sewer line, and a professional will need to make repairs or replace the damaged sections. Sewer line replacement costs about $60 to $250 per linear foot.

On average, a plumber will take 30 minutes to two hours to clear a clogged drain. If the clog is located close to the drain or an access point and isn’t severe, the project will take about half an hour. If the clog is deep within your plumbing system or is a severe blockage, it can take two or more hours to remove the clog. For this reason, main line clogs tend to take longer, usually between two and three hours.

Yes, chemical drain cleaners contain sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, both of which are not only dangerous to your health but also extremely caustic. Drain cleaners will corrode your pipes and could lead to destroyed drain lines, especially if the chemicals interact with the piping for long periods. Unfortunately, this extended interaction is likely if you’re dealing with a clog, as the drain cleaner will have just as much trouble as water does moving through your plumbing system.

If the drain is frozen, the pipes connecting to the washing machine are likely frozen. If the hot water trick doesn’t also unfreeze the washing machine pipes, you can gently apply heat with a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Start at the end of the pipe closest to the faucet to prevent pressure from building in the pipes, and make sure the faucet is open to drain the water as it melts.
