"The replacement went fine. The work was professional and at the agreed time. I was pleased with that. My only issue was with the charges. I had found the mechanism online priced at $108 (with $13 shipping). It would have arrived after my desired time frame, so I expected the locksmith would have a local resource from which to purchase at a wholesale price in a more timely manner. I expected that price to be about $60; certainly less than $100. However, I was told the locksmith paid $179! This didn't seem reasonable. Also, I did not receive an itemized receipt, only a total. After expecting to pay perhaps $150, I was actually charged almost TWICE that. So although I was happy with the work, I was certainly not happy with the price."

"I had lost a key and needed a new one made so I contacted this Locksmith company. I was quoted an arrival time and price to which the Technician showed up earlier than expected. The gentleman that arrived was extremely professional. I was very satisfied with this company and would definately recommend and use them again. A+++"

"Very quick service, showed up within an hour of calling. Tech was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Work was completely for much cheaper than I was quoted from numerous other companies. Will be using them for all locksmith needs in the future."

"Jason did a few projects and even noticed some things that needed done that we had not even noticed. He was punctual and very professional. I am so glad that I now know who to call and get my "honey do" jobs done. I have a honey at home, but getting those projects done timely...well it just doesn't happen. What I liked mostly is that he came up with solutions to a problem, he didn't just leave it if it for the sake of time. He's like Macguyver!

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Locksmiths recommend changing your locks once every seven years for the best security at your home. Locks can wear out over time, so you should inspect your locks regularly. A higher grade lock provides you with more cycles than those with a lower grade.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

Lock bumping is a technique locksmiths use to quickly and quietly open a pin tumbler lock, typically found in most types of deadbolts. It involves inserting a specially crafted key, or bump key, into the lock and tapping or "bumping" it with a mallet or similar tool. The force applied causes the lock's pins to jump momentarily, allowing the lock to be turned and opened. Unfortunately, thieves also use this technique to break into homes. Luckily, products like a deadbolt strap will fortify your lock.

Rekeying should be done when employees leave or keys are lost, while replacement may be necessary for outdated or damaged locks.
