"ZERO STARS For VDP (SW POOL AND SPA). I am sorry I ever used this pool company. I tried to be patient with them, big MISTAKE. They have left my Pentair superflo clamp cam basket cover opened. The pump was running dry for 5 days. I called them and they never showed up. I had to figure out what was wrong and noticed that there was no water in the pump. I have spoken to Vik Patel numerous times because of problems with their services. Several times after the so call I cleaned your pool messages. I had yellow algae all over the pool wall. Again I had to make another phone call to have the walls brushed. I have made several phone call regarding the tech had left the system on service mode. I was told, “I will be there tomorrow”. No one showed up I called without any response. The tech showed up 5 days later on the regular cleaning day. The tech begged me not to stopped service. He was afraid that he would be let go. He promised that he would not do it again. “Please give me a chance,” he told me. The person who answered the phone never informed him of my phone call. They stopped showing up for 2 weeks. This is the worst pool cleaning company I have ever used. I would never, never recommend them to any one."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

The average life expectancy of a hot tub cover is between five and seven years. You can extend the life of yours by keeping it clean, using a soft cloth and mild dish soap; applying a vinyl protectant spray; using a cover lift to move and fold the cover carefully, rather than treating it roughly; protecting it from harsh weather; keeping kids and pets off the cover; and cleaning the underside of the cover with a chlorine spray. Investing in a quality cover will also help it last longer and look better.

Hot tub repairs cost between $200 and $500 on average. You can minimize those costs by maintaining your hot tub and keeping necessary supplies on hand. An elevated shelf in the garage is a great place to store your water care chemicals so that kids and pets will stay safe and you’ll always have them around.

Your hot tub should be drained of existing water, cleaned, and refilled every three to four months at a minimum. Follow your tub manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning, and rinse thoroughly when finished to eliminate any residue from the cleaning products. This is also a good time to inspect your tub’s cover in good lighting for any leaks, tears, or other damage that might cause problems.

Using your hot tub manufacturer’s suggested cleaners and methods, keep your hot tub filters clean to avoid a loss of water heat. This will help extend the filter’s useful life and efficiency. If the filter is more than two to three years old, replace it with a new one and buy a second filter to keep around as a spare.

Similar to a hot tub, swim spas last anywhere from five to 20 years, depending on quality and your attention to maintenance. The best way to increase the lifespan of your swim spa is to carefully maintain it—including draining it around every six months to deep clean the parts.

You’ll know you need to replace the pump in your hot tub if you hear loud or unusual noises when the machine is running or notice a significant decrease in water pressure. A leak or altogether failure of the hot tub may also indicate a problem with the pump, but you’ll need a professional to investigate the source of the issue.

You should put chlorine in your hot tub on a regular basis. To keep bacteria away, keep the chlorine level in your hot tub at between 3-5 mg/l, which may mean you need to add chlorine daily or at least every two to three days. Don’t add chlorine to your hot tub water more than once per day.
