Customers say: Quick response

"We have been thinking about painting the outside of our house for quite some time. I read some reviews on home advisor for Sam’s Painting and decided to put what we were looking for on the website. Sam called almost right away and came out to our house that same day. He walked around with us and asked us what we ideally wanted. He gave us a very reasonable quote, color swatches and peace of mind that the job would be taken care of professionally. He was at our house the next morning with his crew power washing and painting color swatches on the house to ensure we decided on the right color scheme. The very next day our whole house was painted top to bottom and he even promised to come back in a couple of days for any touch ups that may be needed. The job was done in a matter of only 3 days time. My husband and I would HIGHLY recommend Sam’s Painting to anyone looking for quick and professional work. They are AWESOME!!!"

"Nailed it remodeled my bathroom. The price quoted was extremely reasonable. During the remodel problems with the foundation were discovered. One wall of the bathroom needed to be replaced due to a leak in the foundation. Nailed it fixed that part of the problem then had to repair damaged plumbing for a bathtub to a previous contractor unprofessional work. The additional cost for the foundation was not part of the original price but was also very reasonable. Nailed it went above and beyond the contract to ensure the job was well done. I highly recommend them and plan on using them for some future projects."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

When choosing between deck stain or paint, knowing what will last longer is important. Deck paint lasts longer than deck stain. With deck paint, you can get up to 10 years of coverage before you need to reapply. With deck stain, that time is significantly shorter at two to three years

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

Hot, intense sunshine can cause your stain to dry too quickly, which could lead it to look uneven or patchy. If you’re staining the deck during hotter months, it’s best to do it in the morning or evening once the wood has had time to cool down. If you’re staining in cooler weather with less sunshine, the time of day won’t make as much of a difference.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.
