"Physical work at address went very well. Getting paperwork to document the repair is difficult. I requested the measurements before the foundation was lifted and the measurements after the foundation was lifted and stabilized. I still waiting 2 weeks to receive."

"Mr. Hermilo Hernandez, owner of HERSAL Construction & Remodeling was very professional in all his transactions. He took the time to explain the repair process and followed up with us every step of the way. His attention to detail and communication with us made it a pleasure to work with him and his company. Excellent work ethic and I strongly recommend HERSAL Construction for ALL your repair/remodeling/new construction needs!!!! His prices are very reasonable in comparison to other quotes we received. We hired them to repair our roof (replace all Pipe Jack flashing and on the front right corner of our roof install a long kick-out flashing to divert rain away from our stone wall which was causing black mold). He also removed all the black mold on our white stone wall before installing the flashing and treated the area to prevent future mold buildup. Additionally, he provided some tuck-point stone work and new mortar to the corner of our entry way stone arch which had some cracks in the stone. All work was done as scheduled and they were never late.,"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Expansive clay soils throughout TX cause foundation movement, which creates the biggest complication for masonry work. You must stabilize any active foundation shifting before adding new structures, or the new materials will crack. Hard caliche subsoil layers require specialized excavation equipment for footings. Additionally, check for shallow underground utilities in your yard and verify property setback rules in older Mcallen neighborhoods to ensure your new walls or columns fit perfectly.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work significantly boosts your property's resale appeal. Buyers in the Mcallen area heavily favor durable brick and stone exteriors that withstand the hot, humid climate. Adding permanent outdoor living spaces, like covered patios with masonry columns, creates highly desirable features. Repairing existing foundation-related masonry cracks restores buyer confidence and secures your property value. Upgrading to energy-efficient block walls also attracts buyers looking to reduce their cooling usage.

Helpful?

After finishing masonry work, apply a high-quality weatherproofing sealer to protect surfaces from intense UV rays and moisture. Monitor the new structures closely for shifting during the first seasonal cycle, as Texas clay soils expand and contract. Maintain consistent soil moisture around your foundation to prevent movement. Finally, schedule a thorough inspection of all grout and mortar joints exactly twelve months after completion to catch any early separation issues.

Helpful?

Your property is a prime candidate for masonry work if it already features brick veneer or concrete block construction. Most homes in Mcallen sit on slab-on-grade foundations, which easily support new outdoor kitchens or garden walls. Look for diagonal cracks in existing brick or stair-step mortar damage, as these signal a need for prompt repairs. Flat suburban lots also provide the ideal terrain for adding beautiful, permanent outdoor living structures.

Helpful?

You have excellent eco-friendly options for masonry work in Mcallen. Dense materials like brick and stone absorb daytime heat and release it slowly, keeping your home cooler. Light-colored or reflective finishes reduce solar heat gain from the intense sun. Permeable pavers manage occasional heavy rainfall efficiently. For new additions, autoclaved aerated concrete blocks provide structural strength and superior insulation, easily meeting TX energy standards while keeping your utility usage low.
