"Cesar and his crew are the best! He did exactly what I wanted even though I was at work when the project was done. The project was completed on time, with absolutely no evidence that workers had been there. I highly recommend!!!"

Patios questions, answered by experts

No, a deck is more expensive than a concrete patio. The cost to build a deck is between $4,200 and $11,700, or about $7,900 on average. This makes the average deck cost roughly twice as much as the average cost to build a concrete patio. Concrete patios also have far greater longevity and are easier to maintain.

If it’s time to remove your deck, there are several advantages to replacing it with a patio. For example, you’ll pay much less to build a patio than a new deck, especially if the framework is compromised. A patio also needs less maintenance and will last longer. However, replacing your patio with a deck may not be an option if your terrain is on a slope.

Concrete walkways cost around $1,800 for 200 square feet. At an average width of 3 feet, that price will likely cover a walkway that’s around 65 feet long. This price is also for walkways that are 4 inches thick. If you need thicker concrete to support vehicle traffic, you will pay more. This price includes the cost of the concrete itself, as well as the cost for delivery and installation.

While patio installation requires some heavy equipment to excavate the area and compact the soil, you can learn how to do a DIY patio installation and potentially save money versus hiring a pro to do the work. You should be familiar with taking measurements and doing calculations to determine the right amount of materials, and you’ll need to be comfortable working with the necessary equipment.

In most cases, you’ll want your patio to be 4 inches thick, although you should add reinforcement and increase the thickness up to around 8 inches if you want it to support heavier loads and resist cracking more readily. Although thicker slabs will cost more, you’ll start seeing diminishing returns at around 6 inches.
