"A Best Tree service does an A+ job EVERY TIME. I have been using them for at least 15 years to keep our shrubs trimmed and trees, including 3 Huge Red Oaks and a huge Pecan pruned and in good health. Jesus always returns my calls right away and usually will come by the next day to look at the job and give me a great price. I rarely make comments in this manner, but Jesus and his men deserve the praise!"

"I got them on a coupon on Angie's List. They cleaned up. They spray the tree, you are supposed to spray the live oak tree cuttings with this black stuff and they did all of that.

What impressed me with them, like I said, we had used them initially when we moved back into our house after it had been a rental. The property manager did not make it clear to us that our trees needed trimming. So our back yard looked like Jurassic Park. It was just so overgrown. So we had 1-Two-Tree come out from an Angie's List coupon. They were here all day with three guys. They did a great job. They sent us a thank you card and they sent us a Christmas card. So when we needed more tree trimming, my husband wanted to use the guys that sent us the Christmas card.

They bring a crew that gets the job done efficiently, so you don't have 2 guys with a chain saw at your house all day. I like that. They have a certified arborist on their staff. They clean up. They were very receptive to requests that I had. I don't want them to cut off too much of the oak tree and I like our privacy in the back yard so I didn't want them to cut too much of the palms. They tolerated my hovering and answered my questions. So that is going to be who we use.

"Mr Hotchkiss assessed the work needed to remove the branch, and gave me a very reasonable estimate. I immediately accepted. He did an exceptional job of completely removing the branch, and cleaning up all the debris in just one day. He was very pleasant to deal with. I plan to use him for any future tree work."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.

Pruning a tree is a yearly DIY job that involves removing small dead branches, leaves, and blooms to help the tree grow bigger and stronger. You can often complete the job with basic home gardening tools. Trimming a tree, however, removes larger sections to control the direction the tree grows in and protects your home, utility wires, and yard from potentially dangerous branches.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

The best time to prune Japanese flowering cherry trees depends on where you live and the type of flowering cherry tree. Some trees benefit from being pruned toward the end of winter or early spring, after the last freeze. Meanwhile, other trees do well after blooming, in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning your flowering cherry tree in the early winter, as this encourages open wounds that can lead to infections or infestations.
