Martinez Irrigation & Services proudly serves its customers with pride, integrity and attention to the details that matter most to you. This is one of the many things that sets us apart from the rest. We are locally owned and operated. Give us a call today!

"I am very pleased with Antonio Martinez, the way he took care of my leaking sprinkler. He arrived this morning, after calling ahead to see if it was ok. I showed him the problem, and he gave me a very reasonable quote. He immediately started removing my St. Augustine Grass (sod) and put it on a tarp, followed by more dirt. He found the problem and replaced a broken part, and we tested the system. Then he filled the hole with the dirt and replaced the sod. It works great, and it looks like it never even happened. "

"Very thorough, very professional and timely. Also very timely and knowledgeable responses to "ad hoc" bug issues. When did property mowing, done on timely basis and handled extras as requested. (BHL stopped the property mowing on their own initiatve.)"

"Terrible! We have 2 homes in 2 different cities under contract by TruGreen. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE RENEWING CONTRACT!!!! Very disappointed in customer service, continually trying to upcharge us, unable to speak to a customer service representative, charged us twice in a month more than once, charged us for services not in our contract, unable to communicate with the service department directly/you basically have to call main number and play like you are wanting new services for your home. It’s a JOKE! It’s taking me 3 phone calls to cancel my contract!!! Ridiculous! Read BBB, Yelp and other places for reviews. Their website reviews are FAKE!"

"Hector and his crew came out to do a tile job for me around a back yard pool. They completed the job as scheduled and worked late into the evening to meet the deadline. Everything looks great. Very professional as well."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can DIY either core or liquid aeration for your lawn. You can use a manual core aerator or rent an automatic one. Just be sure to mark off yard obstacles like sprinkler heads before you start. Liquid aeration is easier—just hook up a garden pump sprayer, although some are able to be attached to a hose. While liquid aeration is not as laborious as core aeration, you will need to focus on an even distribution of the solution across your entire lawn for it to be effective. Of course, if you are unsure about doing both, call a pro.

Aeration can level your lawn if the issue is minor soil compaction, so it can help smooth things out if your yard is bumpy from foot traffic or vehicle traffic. However, it won’t slope your yard. If you have small areas where water seems to pool after precipitation, aeration could help, but larger issues with improperly sloped lawns and problems leading to foundation leaks or structural damage will require more comprehensive solutions.

First, make sure you’re watering your grass early in the morning (and keep in mind you don’t have to water every day). Doing this helps ensure the water is able to soak in before the hot temps evaporate all of the water. Also, when you mow, don’t mow your grass as short as you would in non-drought conditions. Taller grass can help slow down the rate at which soil dries out. Finally, take your leftover lawn clippings and spread them out across the lawn to give it a little extra shade and nutrients.

First, you should figure out whether you have dormant or dead grass. Dead grass won’t come back, so you’ll have to reseed if you’re hoping for a lush lawn. However, grass can go dormant if it hasn’t received enough water or if temperatures are too cold. If it’s still decently warm outside, you can revive dormant grass by watering it. But if it’s mid-January in New England, for example, you’ll need to wait until the weather warms up again. If you want to keep grass green in winter, consider a grass like Kentucky bluegrass, which maintains its color year-round.

Yes, you should water the lawn after aerating. Now that you’ve loosened up the soil to better receive nutrients, it’s time to hydrate and fertilize your lawn. You’ll want to keep it evenly moist to promote healthy growth. Don’t drown your grass—too much of a good thing can reverse all the work you’ve done with aeration in the first place. But especially if you’ve overseeded and/or fertilized after aeration, you’ll want to ensure a moist soil layer to absorb those nutrients and fuel for new growth.
