Unfortunately, the masonry around our crawlspace tends to move and crack over time, so the rats are back. He took numerous pictures, including from the roof, to show us what was going on up there and why we needed to take action. He spoke with me on the phone at least three or four times and answered all my questions. Dale, who I think is the office manager, was also very helpful and they are both very pleasant to work with. The crew from the subcontracted masonry company showed up when promised, just a few days after my deposit was sent in, and worked a full day to complete the work around the chimney, making a change to the flashing material once they got in there and saw what was needed. The work area was extremely neat and clean when I arrived the next morning. Then the Falmouth Chimney crew returned and performed the work on the tops of the chimneys, plugging the unused chimney with stone, and putting a new cap on the furnace chimney. The outside entry foundation planned for the inclusion of bricks lining the edge of the landing. There were salvaged on site from the first renovation of the historic structure several years ago. Otoniel Garcia, the owner of Austin Masonry, is an artist at his work. Over a Saturday and Sunday he laid all the bricks and then removed & re-grouted the front entry steps of the old house. A masterful job.

We like the plan. His crews that do the actual work are clean and do good work. Nearly all of his sub contractors do good work. He has big problems with project management. Things move very sporadically. There are a couple of days of work, then nothing for a week. We travel a lot ad need to know in advance what decisions we will be needed to make. After numerous requests as to what was the next decision required, most often, decision were left to the last minute and then the burden is on us to make quick decisions. The project had a lot of inefficiencies. There were parts that were done, then dug up for something else to be done. There were last minute scrambles for parts after having been to locations/stores with those parts earlier in the project. At one point, he mis-filed a $5,000 payment I made to him and he charged me for it again. We are near the end of the project and I am having real problems with the sprinkler system sub contracted to Tropical Irrigation. The system has over spray on my wood fence. After numerous attempts to fix it, I was told that over spray is needed until the new plants get established. I don't accept that the only new plants that need over spray are along my wood fence and the new plants along the garage and masonry fence don't require over spray. This will lead to wood rot and premature failure of my fence.
I would recommend him for a design, but can not recommend him for managing the project. Their response is that over spray is necessary to get plants established. I don't accept that 80% of the system works and the remainder has to malfunction. I have new plants in all areas of the back yard. I only have over spray on the wood fence. The worst possible place to have it.

FAQs for masonry work projects in Hearne, TX
Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.
The cost of masonry work varies widely depending on the type of masonry along with common cost factors like size, complexity, location, and season. Most exterior masonry work done in freezing temperatures tends to cost more because of the preparation and protection involved to keep the masonry from freezing before the mortar cures properly. The average price ranges per project or square foot for different types of masonry include:
Brick wall (fence, garden wall, etc.): $10–$45 per square foot
Natural stone wall: $40–$110 per square foot
Manufactured stone veneer: $20–$40 per square foot
A mason lays brick or stone together, sometimes with mortar in between the bricks and stones, and sometimes without mortar, also called a dry-stack or surface bonding. Examples of work masons do include:
Brick, stone, or cement block houses and buildings
Masonry work tends to be more expensive because the materials can be costly, such as natural stone and brick. Masonry is also very labor intensive, typically making up 50% or more of the final project cost. In addition, quality masonry work requires years of training and experience, as with any skilled trade.
Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.
