I got into a car accident on my way to work, so I went home after the car was towed. The mulch was sitting on my driveway at 8:00AM. I called them and asked them why they delivered without calling to schedule a time/place AND when I left a message that I wanted it canceled. The lady claimed that she didn't have a voice message. I told her I can text me a screen shot that I had called that number and talked for 3 minutes. Apparently, she had talked to the owner and the owner's best offer at a resolution was to have me pay ANOTHER 65 dollar fee to have it picked up. I half wonder if he got the voice message after the fact, realized his mistake and forced the sale anyway. At some point, the lady told me to put it on craigslist. You kidding me? Bottom line: 1) If the internet says that they will call to schedule a drop off time/location: then they should instead of doing it without confirmation 2) Check your voicemail. Or don't have it at all. Jerks.

Mr. Overton is 109 and the nation's oldest WWII vet. I knew this was going to be covered by all of the local news channels so I wanted my yard to be on point. Jodi and her crew to the rescue! They brought in all new mulch, replaced the victims of the winter, weeded the flower beds and yard. Everyone at the party noticed how awesome my yard looked. Every enhancement we have ever done to the yard has been with Jodi. And that is the way it will always be. People were calling me from other states to tell me they saw my yard on the news! So glad I used Jodi and her team. Even the Mayor Steve Adler complimented the yard and patio! He was on-time, polite, and even covered his shoes when in our house. He gave us a great plan for landscaping that was clearly tailored to our small backyard and took into account our requests. He was able to start the work about two weeks later, which was fairly quick based on many other quotes I received from other landscapers. He came over promptly on the day of service and brought his foreman and two helpers. They finished the work in just under 3 hours. They first removed 3 ligustrums, revamped the soil, and laid out a set of border stones. Then put on a fresh bed of mulch. Next came the planting of a mix of 26 shrubs: azaleas, camellias, and sweet viburnums. They watered them all and cleaned up nicely. Garden Guy notified me that 3 of the camellias were not available yet, so removed the amount from our bill and planned to come back to plant them once available. The Garden Guy has great attention to detail - evident when he asked his guys to adjust the position of a few shrubs to better compliment our house window layout and take into account drip lines from the roof. What was a bonus for us was that they removed the remaining old grass sod that I had not completed yet, without charge! I had re-sodded half of my grass the weekend before and they saved me probably 2 hours of work. They also hauled away a load of extra dirt from my earlier sod removing efforts. My wife was very happy when she came back to see the results. The Garden Guy was able to brighten up a yard that had limited light exposure and create a modern clean look. We were very pleased with the outcome and highly recommend Garden Guy."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/missouri-city/garden-guy-inc-reviews-208672.htm"},"position":3},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Allandale Lawn & Landscape","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Brian D."},"reviewBody":"Chris Griffith, owner and designer for Allandale Land Design, the creative wing of Allandale Lawn and Landscape, met with us on several occasions to discuss our concept of turning yards that were primarily St. Augustine grass lawns into much lower water usage landscapes. We wanted to create a dense Texas woods look in the back yard, with mature trees and shrubs that, once fully established in the ground, would need little or no watering during much of the year. For the front yard, we were inspired by the natural wildflower gardens at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and wanted a combination of wildflowers, drought tolerant native ornamental grasses, native sedges, and a bit of Thunder Turf grass seed mix to hold the soil together in areas where there might be erosion in heavy rains. Chris was always prompt for meetings, notepad in hand, and was very helpful in conceptualizing the new yards, roughing out sketches, choosing appropriate trees and other plants, and providing a photo layout showing us suggested plant material, so we could see how they might work together before they went into the ground. Chris line-itemed each plant and service, so there were no 'extras' or hidden surprises. The installation schedule was set. Chris' seasoned crew was on schedule, on time and very good at their jobs. They removed some bad dirt, unwanted grass and weeds in the front yard first , did beautiful work leveling and grading the space in preparation for planting and seeding. Chris came by numerous times each day throughout the installation week to supervise and double check his team's work. His lead installer, Jeremy, always checked in with us if they had any questions or if a decision needed to be made. They allowed us to help position and rotate trees in their pre-dug holes, so we could get the orientation just right before final dirt went in. Each day, the crew cleaned up empty plant containers and other debris. We were extremely impressed with their professionalism and integrity. By the time the final layer of mulch went down over the seed mix in the front, and around each of the trees or shrubs in the back, Allandale had transformed our yards and had more than met our expectations. The plants they brought in were mature, high quality and very healthy. We felt as if we got our money's worth every step of the way. Highly recommend. I thought they were very honest in their assessment at that time--that no work was needed. So when my roof started leaking some eight years later due to leaves (mulch) in the steep roof valleys, I called them back. The estimator climbed all over the roof and brought back pictures of what was happening--including a missing vent cap, another vent pulled away from the flashing, a damaged ridge line and three areas of damaged shingles, including possible raccoon damage. He included all the photos in the estimate, which he sent via email later the same day. Two workers came back a couple of days later and worked for three or four hours fixing everything, and they didn't leave a mess. Maybe I could have gotten the work done more cheaply, but I trusted Wilson after my experience of several years ago. It rained very hard shortly after the work was done--and I had no problems at all then or since.

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts
Organic mulch typically lasts between 4 to 6 years. However, factors like the type of organic mulch you choose, mulch size, and weather conditions can all play a role in its longevity. In some cases, you’ll need to replace organic mulch every few years.
A well-maintained lawn has the most ROI when it comes to landscaping. Other enhancements, such as building a deck or patio and adding a front walkway, follow suit, but aiming to enhance the basics is where your home can truly shine and increase its profitability. Not only does it increase curb appeal, but it sets potential homebuyers up for landscaping success when they have a healthy, clean slate of grass to begin with.
Topsoil provides plants with essential nutrients, water, and air for healthy root growth. It offers a rich ecosystem of microorganisms that improve soil quality and structure. For existing lawns, ¼ inch of topdressing can enhance root growth and support new seed. For gardens, two inches of topsoil can promote strong growth and crops.
The best mulches for trees are wood chips, bark nuggets, or pine straw. Depending on your goals, you may want to avoid using plastic, stone, rubber, or wet grass clippings. Plastic mulch prevents water from reaching the mulched areas of your tree, stones don’t offer any nutritional benefits to the soil, rubber can release byproducts into the soil when it decomposes, and wet grass clippings can lead to rot.
Plastic may prove beneficial in cold climates in the winter, but wood chips are the ideal option for most environments.
Yes, weeds can still grow in decomposed granite. If properly compacted, it can act as a good weed suppressant, meaning you’ll only pull weeds occasionally. But no ground cover is completely weed-proof. To further prevent weeds, you can try spraying your decomposed granite with distilled white vinegar.
