"Willie and his team did fantastic work. After contacting numerous other "foundation experts", Willie provided the best plan and backed it up with his overall knowledge and certification/training in basement/foundation repair. He and his team do great work and take no short-cuts when it comes to the overall quality of the work. He also was very flexible when other requests were made and he gladly accommodated. He has a passion for his business, customers and takes great pride in his work. The basement and porch are now fixed and look great. Best of all is that we have confidence the work performed will last."

"Excellent communication among each other which made the remodeling move quickly and keep the cost down, with Mr. Paul inspecting the walls and insulation (great advice to inspect before installing the new sheetrock), I had the crew removed the mold that was in the walls and added new sections of walls and insulation (stop roof leaks), I had them rebuild a new porch and added new vent for my roof including several windows. "We needed to have the subflooring replaced in two bathrooms in a manufactured home. We decided to have several fixtures replaced at the same time ("We need to put stuff back; cost is the same if we use old stuff or new..") - toilets, vanities, new shower, remove old and inoperative tubs. Things went quite sideways when we found the flooring under the old water heater was bad and found the water heater needed replacing - the crew waited until the plumbing people came out and talked to them about what was needed. Fans needed to be left for several days to dry things out. New subflooring put in; we provided new vinyl flooring, fixtures, and vanities, which they installed. Everything came out PERFECT!! David bid on a week-and-a-half job; turned into almost 3 weeks - except for some additional items needed to finish up some plumbing, he didn't up the cost. We have a contractor that we will call when other projects need to be done. If I could give ten stars out of five, I would!!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.
