Most door knobs can be removed with a Phillips or flathead screwdriver. If you don’t have either of those available, a paper clip or small pin can sometimes work, but the extra effort may not be worth a quick trip to the hardware store.

You may be able to get a broken key out of a lock by yourself, depending on the situation. If a portion of the key is still protruding from your lock, try lubricating the keyway and using pliers or even a bobby pin to pull the key out of the hole. Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.

It depends on the quality of the keyless lock and usage, but in general, you can expect a keyless lock to last around three to five years. The batteries typically last around six to 12 months. The good news is most keyless locks include a low battery indicator so you can receive ample warning if your battery is about to die.
