"I needed to see a ceiling fan installed and the floor to ceiling height was 19.5 feet. Kyle is just awesome. He's very thorough and does what he says he will do. He is VERY straightforward. He helps keep the work area clean. He has no problem with DIY. Old man, asking a bunch of questions. He listened, and has no issue with explaining anything. If there's an adjustment to be made, he will make it right. He's more than happy to come back out at no additional cost .Nice that no additional call, and adjust things as needed. You can't go wrong with Jade electric. THEY ARE my electric repair go to."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, an AFCI (arc fault circuit interrupter) outlet also has line and load terminals, although it uses different technology than a GFCI and offers a different kind of protection. AFCIs monitor for internal arc faults, a type of wiring problem that can start an electrical fire.

Inverter generators are designed to turn on the engine when your appliances demand more energy. This is in contrast to running at full capacity as soon as they’re turned on, like a standard portable generator does. So long as the wattage rating is high enough, an inverter can power a refrigerator just as well as a traditional generator.

Yes, you can splice electrical wires together to make them longer. If you follow the proper safety protocols and match the correct colors, you can save yourself from getting a brand-new circuit and add length to your wires to get them where they need to go.

Switching the hot and neutral wires in an outlet or receptacle, a condition known as reverse polarity, is dangerous. While the outlet will still function and provide power, it creates a significant electrical shock hazard because anything plugged into it will remain electrified even when switched off. If you touch a conductive part of the appliance, such as the metal components of a toaster, you could receive an electric shock.

You don’t need an electrician to change an outlet—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hire one. Working with electricity can be dangerous, not only for you but also for your home and the members of your household. There’s the risk of electrocution, poor wiring burnout, and electrical fire. When you hire a licensed electrician, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your electrical outlets are installed correctly and up to code.
