Graduating in 1986 with a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University, I have been active in the landscape design and installation industry for 24 years. Every design process is unique to the client's needs, scale and budget. By being a sole proprietor, the client deals directly with the me, whether on design and/or a consultation project. My approach is simple: create a thoughtful and distinctive landscape design for the client's home and lifestyle. Having been in several garden design publications such as 'Southern Living'& 'Metropolitan Home and Garden' magazines; 'The Dallas Morning News', books including the 'Dallas Planting Manual' and 'Native Texas Plants',I am always searching to design a landscape that stand out from the rest.
The design process starts with an initial consultation at no charge. This introductory meeting is used to define the scope and requirements for the potential landscape design. The client will then be provided with a description of the design services to be completed and the firm design fee. This is often followed by a preliminary design meeting to review the progress of the actual plan. The final plan presentation will include, as needed, the landscape plan, planting design, constuction drawings, plant lists, etc. This will also include extensive design suggestions such as decorative light fixtures, pool tile, fountain/accent pieces or any detail that will make the client's project extraordinary.
Once the design has been completed and invoiced, I will work with the client to obtain the necessary installation bids and proposals. I have access to a talented group of dedicated craftmen and contractors, all of whom provide the highest quality in landscape architectural installation. If the client accepts any bids from the contractors I have presented, they will deal directly with the contractors regarding payment for their services. I generally act as a consultant for the client throughout the installation process to make sure the project follows the plan, budget and is executed in a timely fashion. My general consultation fee is $75.00/hour. Even on a large project, that make require only a few hours of my time to complete the project.
Bottom line: Whether it is a large ranch or small courtyard, the landscape design can truly be an innovative exercise in creativity and going beyond the clients design expectations.
