"I hired CustomScapes to sod a good portion of our St. Augustine in the front yard and to install a sloping creek bed of rock to help with a drainage issue. Juan runs his business very professionally, He and his crew did an awesome job from beginning to end in one day. I now have a beautiful yard! I definitely recommend them to anyone needing landscaping projects."

"Iam extremely satisfied withTC Lighting. Todd provided landscape lighting for my front and back yards. He really knows what he is doing. The end product is fabulous to the point we didn’t want to close window shades at night so as to enjoy the view."

"The owner BO, has an amazing ability to visualize what the landscape can look like and then make it happen. They expanded our flowerbeds and lined them with beautiful Flagstone, plant a banana trees, palm tree, small shrubs, flowers, elephant ear, and other beautiful plants. They also expanded our patio with two very nice Flagstone setting areas and put down new sod in our backyard."

"Darren (owner of Extreme Landscape Construction) was prompt in his communications and of the 3 companies that came to give bids on our retaining wall - he was the only one to suggest a fence in wall solution for the back portion of our yard. His team arrived on time, they were extremely hard working, and completed the job per schedule. The result was absolutely awesome. It exceeded our expectations. In addition I feel that his bid price was very fair. Thank you Darren for an awesome retaining wall"

"We are very Thankful for Mr. Gerardo of Texas Green Leaf Construction! One of our shower walls was failing from the weight of the door and was very dangerous. None the companies we contacted would even quote the small job. Mr. Gerardo came in person and reinforced the wall, reinstalled the door and even painted the wall where he had opened up the drywall to add studs. It is now stronger than it ever was and looks like it never happened. All this in one day. He did this himself while his crew was on another larger job. We are very grateful and highly recommend him !!!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.

Yes, you can put topsoil over sand to encourage grass growth. The topsoil will help to improve water retention and promote grass roots’ development, making it a recommended step of the seeding process. Adding a layer of topsoil will provide additional nutrients to the sandy soil, helping the grass grow and remain healthy through many seasons.

If you choose to leave gaps between your pavers, you can grow some ground cover plants between them for an organic feel. Look for plants such as creeping thyme, dymondia, jewel mint of Corsica, or clover.

Consulting your local university extension, Audubon society, or municipal urban forestry program are all good ideas when choosing a tree to plant. You can also ask an arborist or a knowledgeable landscaping company for advice on good trees to plant.
