"This is the 2nd time I used JM Roofing & Siding to repair siding issues installed by another company. Both times Joe came out the next day, explained why it was happening and repaired properly with the assurance what he fixed would not happen again. He is a true professional who takes pride in his work and cares about his customer."

"Sean did an excellent job at repairing our chimney and sidings. I am usually skeptical and most of the time disappointed with contractors. But not with Sean. He gave us an estimate at a fair price, showed up on time and did what he said he would do. The quality of his work and the attention to details is remarkable. I would definitely recommend Sean to anybody who is looking for a reliable contractor."

"Santos and his team at Elite Exteriors completed my job very efficiently and with top notch quality. I had siding around my chimney that was beginning to split and allow rain water to leak through the roof. He quickly identified the poor materials and technique used by the home builder and replaced everything with quality Hardie Board siding. A few days after the job was done it rained pretty heavily and there was no water leak. Santos even called to make sure everything was good. Won’t find many contractors that follow-up like that. Highly recommend this pro!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Fiber cement shingle siding is made from a blend of common ingredients, including cement, sand, water, and wood or cellulose fibers. The composition of the mixture varies depending on the manufacturer, however, with some makers opting to include special additives to improve longevity and resilience, and some include dyes and pigments to create custom colors that don’t require painting.

Concrete log siding offers some cost savings when compared to wood logs. Real wood logs require ongoing maintenance that can total up to $750 annually, while concrete log siding doesn’t require annual maintenance. Since concrete log siding exceeds the requirements of most building codes, it can also lower insurance premiums and boost resale value.

Wood siding requires an air gap behind it to allow water to drain out, and for air circulation and venting to allow humid air to escape and keep the material from rotting due to moisture.

For homeowners looking for a less expensive alternative to metal siding, the most popular choice is vinyl siding. At just $3 to $12 per square foot, vinyl siding can cost much less than some types of metal siding. Other popular alternatives include fiber cement and engineered wood. Consult a local siding contractor to determine which type of siding will work best for your home.

Insulated vinyl siding costs about twice as much as the cheapest form of vinyl siding, but it’s still more affordable than other types of siding, including fiber cement, wood, stone, and brick. You get a lot of bang for your buck with vinyl siding; it’s durable, it’s available in a wide range of styles and colors, and it helps lower your energy bills.
