"I had a leaking roof. Restored Roofing and Construction thoroughly inspected my roof and attic. They located and explained the leak using pictures. They also used pictures to show me other areas of my roof that were deteriorating, although not currently leaking. I was given a fair price to fix the leak and each of the other recommended repairs. Upon completion of the work, I was sent another set of pictures showing the problem areas before, after, and some during repairs. I cannot see the second story roof up close, but thanks to the many detailed pics, I feel confident in the service provided."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The ridge is the horizontal line where two sloping roof sections meet at the top, forming the highest point of the roof. A hip, on the other hand, is the external angle formed where two roof sections meet and slope downward toward the walls, typically at a lower angle than the ridge. The ridge runs horizontally along the peak and the hip runs diagonally from the peak to the roof's edges.

No, ice dams aren’t a standalone sign that you need a new roof. Ice dams can form on new roofs, as issues with the insulation inside your home are often the underlying problem. However, if you notice signs of roof damage from ice dams, you might need to hire a local roofer for repair or partial replacement.

It’s possible for a roofing estimate to change after the initial assessment, but in most cases, it shouldn’t. There’s always the risk that something unexpected will happen that causes prices to go up, like discontinued materials or your roofer discovering previously hidden damage to your decking when ripping off the old roof. However, experienced roofers should account for these circumstances in their initial estimates. Roofing contracts are binding, so always check your contract for language about how and why your numbers could change.

Your chimney needs a structurally sound chimney cap, protective lining, damper, chimney flashing, and brick and mortar to prevent water from goind down your chimney. A pro can help you identify where the issue is so that you can stop water from coming down the smoke shaft, through your damper, and into your home.

Properly maintained roof decking can last between 20 and 30 years on average, though it varies based on a few factors. Mainly, the quality of roof decking materials and environmental conditions have the most impact on longevity. You can extend its lifespan by regularly inspecting your roof and making repairs as necessary.
