"This is a very professional company. Everyone I spoke with were very helpful and quick with answers. My house is very old and the city required it to be decked over the 1x12 shiplap boards. The estimator dealt with the city and my insurance and was very quick on answers. The work was excellent and some boards were replaced that I thought I would have to do. I would recommend this company to all. If I need another roof due to weather, I'll call Lon Smith roofing. I had first called another roofing company that was advertised on the radio. I was not impressed with that company but knew I wanted to go with Lon Smith after calling them."

"Restored Roofing and Construction did an excellent job on my roof! From start to finish, the experience was smooth, professional, and reassuring. The estimate process was especially impressive—thorough, meticulous, and clearly explained. They took the time to assess every detail, which gave me full confidence in their recommendations and pricing. Customer service was exceptional. Every interaction—from the initial call to the final walkthrough—was handled with care, respect, and professionalism. They were responsive to questions, kept me informed throughout the process, and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. "Joe and his team replaced my existing roof and the experience was pleasant from start to finish. Joe only needed my approval to get the job done. He managed everything so I did not have to worry about anyting. He dealt with my insurance company, brought samples for me to choose from, found the barrier I wanted, and installed all on time and on budget. His crew were professional and cleaned everything up after they were finished. I do not expect to replace my roof anytime soon but, if I do, I'll use Triple J to do so"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

In some cases, yes, you can put a second roof layer over architectural shingles, but it depends on your home’s structural stability and the local building codes where you live. Architectural shingles are thicker and heavier than standard asphalt shingles, so you may need structural reinforcement or a structural engineer’s inspection before proceeding. Additionally, some building departments don’t allow for two roof layers, regardless of the roof type. You should ask a professional if ripping the old roof off before installing the new one is the best option for you.

Roof blistering and hail damage are different in their physical appearance. Blistering, often caused by inadequate ventilation, low-quality material, and improper installation, looks like large, irregular bubbles popping out of your roof. Meanwhile, hail damage is usually circular or oval dents entering your roof and often follows the same path as the hail storm.

The lifespan of an impact-resistant roof averages 30 to 50 years, depending on the quality of the shingles and the amount of wear and tear it endures. Some high-quality shingles may last even longer. For comparison, a standard asphalt roof lasts about 20 years, so choosing an impact-resistant option can increase your roof's lifespan by 50% or more, particularly in regions prone to extreme weather.

The green coloration that develops on copper roofs is called a “patina,” and it’s a result of mild oxidation on the surface. The oxidation process is not harmful to your roof. In fact, the surface corrosion acts as a protective layer and won’t spread to the core of your copper roof materials. The discoloration will progress much more quickly in damp or humid climates than it will in dry climates. If you don’t like the green color, you can seal your roof to preserve the shiny, rose-gold look.

The level of underlayment’s water resistance will depend on the type of underlayment. The most popular underlayment, felt, is water-resistant, but it can’t withstand long direct exposure to rain or the elements.

Synthetic underlayment is more waterproof, but asphalt is the only fully waterproof type of underlayment.
