"The company completed three separate projects in a matter of a few weeks. The first was the replacement of our residential mailbox, originally installed by my late father when we bought our home in 1982. The second project was described above by my beloved wife, and involved the restoration of our garage ceiling - which was showing considerable damage sustained over nearly 44 years. The ceiling now looks as good as it originally did when we bought the place. The third project involved caulking a crack in the exterior brick wall which had existed for many years thanks to shifting soil under foundation. The completion of these projects improved the condition of our home, and I would award House Doctors of College Station a rating of A-Plus based on the quality of the work, excellence of finished project, reasonable costs, punctuality, flexibility of scheduling, professionalism, etc. An A-Plus has been earned on the basis of complete customer satisfaction."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, a chimney damper is necessary. It controls airflow in and out of your fireplace, helping to retain heat when closed and allowing smoke to escape when open. Without a damper, your home could lose warmth during cold months, leading to higher energy bills. It also helps prevent downdrafts and keeps animals or debris from entering the chimney. In short, it’s essential for efficiency and safety.

If your hardwired smoke alarm keeps going off, it could be because the backup battery needs replacing. When replacing the battery doesn’t stop your smoke alarm from beeping, try holding the reset button for 15 to 30 seconds or removing dust from the openings in the alarm. If it continues to chirp, it could be faulty and require replacement.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.

It’s technically possible in some areas to install your own fire suppression system, but it’s usually not a good idea. Your system must conform to the fire code in your area and will need to pass a rigorous inspection before being activated and deemed safe. Installing a fire suppression system is a complicated job, and making mistakes as a DIYer is likely. Those mistakes can cause you to fail your inspection, which means you’ll have to spend more time fixing the issues or money to have a certified plumber do the work for you. It’s best to hire a professional.

First, it is crucial to check your local guidelines or building codes. You should typically have one smoke detector for every floor, bedroom, and kitchen. Another rule of thumb is to install one smoke detector for every 500 feet in a home. Reviewing manufacturing recommendations, especially for interconnected devices, is also a good idea to ensure proper connection and monitoring.
