Customers say: Quick response

"Richard (the owner) was on the job at all times and with an ARMY of talented workers the very day we signed on! He was prepping the areas (over 9000 sq ft.) and was extremely organized. He went the extra mile, adding paving and base to areas that we never even visited about and never once asked for more compensation. When I questioned him to see if I could compensate him for the extras, he could not accept as he said it was just the right thing to do!! He stripped the area and even added stripping where there was none before to prevent trucks from causing future damages. I LOVE THIS COMPANY! Their pricing is VERY reasonable and the work was impeccable! HIGHLY recommend this company. A family owned business that does the job right and with your needs in mind at all times. You will be very pleased!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Like brick, paver, and cobblestone driveways, resin driveways can have intricate patterns using different colors. Aggregates can be laid to create curves, shapes, letters, or numbers. When using custom colors or patterns, homeowners can expect to add an extra $2 to $6 per square foot to achieve their desired look.

The best ways to increase the lifespan of your driveway are to carry out proper maintenance and get repairs done quickly. First, reseal your driveway every one to three years to protect it from the elements. If you start to notice significant cracks, hire a professional to diagnose the problem before it gets more serious. You can also use sand instead of salt when de-icing your driveway (since salt is corrosive) and clean your driveway annually using a pressure washer to keep it in tip-top shape.

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.
