"Our front door looks brand new! They went well beyond the norm to try to match our existing paint for the drywall repair. This meant multiple trips to the paint store and re-painting. We couldn't be happier with the mortar work done. All in all, we are very pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of their handymen."

"Excellent price and work. One panel of my garage ceiling drywall was threatening to fall and needed to be secured or replaced. The work done was good and I’m deducting a star only because they left me with the rubble to dispose. I would hire them again."

"From the several times that I visited with Dominique about a bathroom remodel, I was very impressed not only with his personality but also with the presentation of his plans for the remodel. It is unfortunate that my mother's health has now become more fragile than ever and caregiving for her precludes a bathroom remodel or any other remodel attempts for this house."

"Andre Luna quickly diagnosed peeling/shedding/failing interior drywall and plaster as an exterior stucco issue. Cre8 identified and repaired rotting OSB and framing as well as improperly installed stucco throughout our 4700 sq ft dream home. The general contractor (KRP Construction, Lago Vista, TX) blamed his construction defect issues on a "Microclimate" that we created with improper temperature control inside the house for years. Cre8 debunked the inane litany of excuses the original general contractor contrived and worked diligently with our structural engineer and drywall contractor to quickly and professionally remedy the stucco wall system construction defects."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.

Yes, you can speed up the time it takes for plaster to dry, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid issues like cracking or crumbling. Proper ventilation is key; open a window or use a fan to circulate air in the room. Heat can also accelerate drying, but be cautious, as too much heat can cause the plaster to dry too quickly and crack. Check the plaster's packaging for the recommended drying temperature and set the room's thermostat accordingly. While managing humidity is important, avoid using a dehumidifier, which can remove moisture too aggressively and result in crumbly plaster.

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

Whether you apply the drywall mesh before or after drywall mud depends on the type of patch it is. For self-adhesive patches, you’ll put the patch down first and then coat it with mud. Mesh patches that are not self-adhesive will require you to put mud down first and then press the mesh into it, followed by additional coats of mud.
