"Mr. White was very professional in giving us an estimate as well as during the job. The materials and quality of work were exceptional and once finished, the fence has added a rustic charm to the property. Will is a hard worker and completed the fence in a short period of time. We are very pleased with the work and service provided. We definitely would hire him again as well as recommend him to anyone looking to add a fence."

"Will was prompt in communication and scheduling. I called on him to help remove 4 oak trees in the back yard and smooth out the affected area. The day he came out he offered to remove some other wood on the property for a reasonable fee. Will had the equipment and help to get the job done right and for a fair price. Will is a solid worker and enterprising young business man that has earned my future business as our “tree-guy”."

"Masterfully completed the walls in our craft room. There were also some edges in our laundry room, where paint had bled over from a previous project, they addressed it perfectly and matched paint on the ceiling. Terrific communication of expectations and schedule. All around excellent service."

"Comment: Autograph Construction was amazing to work with! We were having an unknown issue with our windows and Jess and his team were able to identify the roof cause. They are a team that we could trust to help us identify the issue and also trust to have the issue taken care of properly. The team was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and communicative. I would hire them again in a second."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use a floor jack to remove fence posts. Attach a stem to the base of the fence post so you can position the floor jack underneath. The stem can be a scrap piece of wood attached with nails or a sturdy nail itself. Put the jack beneath the stem and push the lever to lift up on the fence post and remove it from the ground.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.

If the fence is on one neighbor’s property, that person is responsible for repairs, regardless of who benefits from the fence more. The other neighbor must keep trees and other obstacles from crossing the property line and affecting the fence. If the fence is directly on the property line, though, who owns a shared fence? Many states have laws that address this issue. Typically, the two property owners would share responsibilities and costs for fence maintenance and repair. You may need a property line survey to precisely determine ownership and responsibility.

Yes, installing wrought iron fencing will usually require a building permit, as do all types of fencing. Building permits for wrought iron fencing typically cost between $150 and $500, and the price will vary based on where you live and how much your local building department charges. You may also need to pay for a property survey if you’re installing wrought iron fencing on your property line. This type of survey can cost around $500, but it prevents issues with building on neighboring properties, which can be much more expensive in the long run.
