"The staff members came out to view the project and to provide a free estimate. The concrete driveway needed to be replaced. In addition to the driveway I requested a new walkway from the back gate to the patio. The work was completed in a timely manner. Once the Project was completed a staff member came out to review the completed work and addressed any concerns that I had. I am satisfied with the work that was completed and the cost."

Small jobs welcome

"I am a handicapped veteran in a wheelchair. My request was for a wheelchair accessible ramp to exit the rear of my house. Jay Teams James, came out and evaluated measured and developed a ramp done to specifications safe an easy grade, and did not flinch when I added a request for ADA style rails. He did take the time to order those so that the install would run smoothly and did not gouge the price to install them. The ramp and patio are very well made, safe and my puppies and I are enjoying summer days and playing fetch and cooking burgers in the back yard. The puppies explained to me that hot dogs would make them cannibals. I recommend Jay Team highly."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.
