"Fenix Electric went beyond expectations to hang a flood light camera, replace an outdoor ceiling fan, clear an issue with a gfci circuit, and install automatic light switches for three outdoor lights. His crew was courteous and professional. The work was done expeditiously. His pricing was very reasonable. I recommend Fenix Electric highly!"

"I had a family member who does this kind of installation that is coming to town real soon so he said he would do the project for us. I had decided with A&M before I knew that and they were very kind and fairly priced."

"The owner, Dave Fisher, recently installed a Home Guardian Backup Generator for my home. He did a great job of helping design a system that meets my needs. The installation works perfectly and looks great. Electrical and Lift Services did an A+ job of resolving all issues associated with the install. I highly recommend this dealer for a professional generator install."

"I never ever, ever write reviews but I certainly shall today. I had Fenix install the necessary wiring for my home to safely and effectively receive the energy transfer from my portable gasoline generator. This is a project far removed from my comfort level and as such has impeded my pulling the trigger on resolving the major inconveniences of multiple power outages in my area. Fenix thoroughly explained all necessary actions prior to conducting same. After discussing and advising me regarding my desired project goals, Fenix accomplished the work in a timely and efficient manner. Fenix even wrote down the sequence of steps for me to follow when I next lose utility power. All this AND their estimate previously provided was what I paid. No surprises! Oh, and did I mention I received 10% off as a new customer? Fenix is without hesitation my contact for any future home electrical projects. My only regret is that I did not call Fenix sooner. Thank you for your time in reading my review. God bless."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

While natural gas generators are costly, they’re a great option for standby power due to the reliability of natural gas as a fuel source. Unlike other fuels, natural gas is delivered through underground pipes, making outages extremely rare and less likely to be affected by the elements. As long as the area isn’t prone to earthquakes, they offer an unlimited supply of natural gas that doesn’t degrade over time or require storage in tanks.

To power a central air system during a power outage, the whole-house generator will need to be at least 5,000 watts, and this number will significantly increase for larger units. Check the specific wattage requirements of your AC unit to choose the right generator size. Consider consulting a generator installer to ensure your whole-house generator meets your electrical load needs.

The average cost to install a home generator is $5,200, but total costs can range from $500 to $18,000 or more. The final price depends on several factors, including the generator's size, type, brand, fuel source, and the cost of labor and assembly. The generator's size is the most significant cost factor, as units that can power larger homes with higher energy demands cost more.

Cost breakdowns by generator type are typically as follows:

  • Portable or Emergency Backup Generators (1kW–7.5kW): $500–$2,000

  • Partial-Home Generators (9kW–20kW): $2,000–$6,500

  • Whole-House Generators (22kW–48kW): $5,000–$18,000

To ensure you get the right size unit for your needs without overpaying, consider hiring an electrician to calculate the electrical load of your essential appliances. It is also recommended to get at least three quotes from qualified installers to find the best fit for your budget.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.
