"I had a small drywall project needing finished (3 support posts and a header beam). I had wrapped everything with sheetrock and installed the corner beads. Drywall mudding is all that was left to do. Job turned out great! Now I'm ready to paint and trim. A+"

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Keith is an absolute drywall wizard! I had a big, ugly hole in my living room wall from a botched TV mount, plus some old water damage that made the texture look terrible. Keith came out the same week I called, gave me a fair and upfront price, and knocked it out in one day. The repair is completely invisible—you literally cannot tell where the damage was. The texture matches perfectly, the seams are flawless, and he even color-matched the paint so well that I didn’t have to repaint the whole wall. He was on time, super clean (left zero dust or mess), respectful of my house, and just an all-around nice guy. If you need drywall work in the Knoxville area, do yourself a favor and call Keith. 11/10 would hire again in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommend!"

"Francisco and his crew showed up promptly at 8 AM on the first day and the following days of the project. They were polite, worked hard and were careful to clean up after themselves while working inside my house. The drywall work, wood paneling and some carpentry was nicely done plus a few extras projects. They cleaned up and removed all the construction trash at the end of the job."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

According to the EPA, mold grows within 24 to 48 hours if left untreated after a water leak. So unless you notice the leak and stop it right away, you only have a day or so before mold is a real concern. If you don’t notice the leak, it can take about three weeks for the mold spores to become visible. That means you’ve likely had an active mold infection for a few weeks by the time you notice discoloration.

Brick and stucco are a lot more different. You must use picture hanging clips designed for brick walls, or use a plaster rail system with adjustable hooks. Any other type of hanging hardware will cause damage to the bricks behind. You won’t be able to really use nails, either, because they’re not strong enough to go into the bricks.

It is more difficult to drywall a ceiling than it is to drywall a wall, but not so hard that DIYers can’t tackle it. One of the main issues with hanging drywall on your ceiling is getting it into place. Drywall isn’t light so, if you are hanging full drywall panels, you will need at least two (it’s better with more) people to hold the panel while you drill it into the ceiling as a single piece can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and will need to be held in place for up to 10 minutes.

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.
