"Glenn Griffin is very responsive and professional. He scheduled his technical specialist, Kevin Trimbach, to come service our central vac system at our convenience. Kevin was on time for our appointment and got right to work to competently trouble-shoot the system. We needed a new power unit for our 16-year old system as the components that had gone bad are no longer in production. Kevin had a new unit in his van, put it in and tested it thoroughly. It works great! We appreciate the professionalism and excellent service we received from both Glenn at Aerus Electrolux and Kevin of Affordable Home Enhancements."

"I got very good service with Robert. He called on Sunday while I was still on Servicemagic's website to ask about the job, took the model number and talked about the problem. We agreed he would call back at 1 PM Monday with an estimate and he did call when he said he would. He came Monday night with the parts and did the repair in an hour for the estimated amount and the washer works great now. He was very nice and very professional. I would highly recommend Robert."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

Maintaining your central vacuum cleaner is crucial to extending its lifespan. Ensuring the filter is cleaned or changed often is vital to ensuring clogs don’t impact your motor. In addition, inspecting motor brushes regularly and lubricating the engine when needed helps keep it in tip-top shape. Finally, cleaning the central vacuum hose of dirt and debris helps keep clogs at bay, especially if you’ve vacuumed something wet or sticky.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
