"I had multiple bids and I went with the most economical for my budget. The owner offered to match the lower bid but I had already committed to the other company. The owner & staff were quite professional and courteous. I would feel comfortable hiring them and or recommending them to others"

I worked as a subcontractor for Lowe’s for 5 years doing all their residential remodeling work, specializing in kitchens and bathrooms. I am 2 time certified in Schluter products and installation. I do custom tile work such as showers, floors, backsplash’s, etc. I also do hardwood flooring as well as LVP. I offer most all home maintenance & improvement needs.\nI understand that your home is a sanctuary for you and your family & will treat it with respect, keeping my jobsite clean and safe for children and pets. "Ruby did a fantastic job for me when she designed and constructed custom draperies for two of our bank branches. I would highly recommend her for any and all jobs that you may have. There is no project to big or small. Not only does she give you individual attention... she really listens to your needs and wants for your special project."

Residential Design questions, answered by experts

Mid-century modern architecture was a popular home style throughout the U.S. from the 1950s to 1970s. Most homes feature a wide and symmetrical floor plan with low-sloped roofs and floor-to-ceiling windows. Its minimalism and balanced appearance are back on the home style scene, particularly when maximizing sunlight, airflow, and a blend with the home's natural surroundings.

While the terms 'interior designer' and 'interior decorator' are often used interchangeably, they represent distinct professions with some overlapping work. The primary difference lies in the scope of their projects.

An interior decorator focuses on the aesthetics of a space, making less permanent decisions about decor. Their work involves selecting colors, fabrics, furniture, wall art, paint, and other finishes to 'dress' a room and enhance its style.

An interior designer has a broader scope that includes a decorator's aesthetic focus but also extends to the structural and functional aspects of a space. Designers are qualified to plan layouts, make structural changes, and manage overall functionality. They handle permanent decisions regarding fixtures like cabinets and bathtubs, establish floor plans, and may hire contractors.

Due to the technical skills required, interior designers typically have formal education, certification, and may hold a license, which can result in higher fees. As a general rule, it is best to hire an interior designer for major remodeling projects and an interior decorator for projects focused on establishing or refreshing a home's interior style.

Designers optimize space, improve aesthetics, and recommend durable, high-quality materials.

While the Arts and Crafts movement inspired many architectural elements, the primary styles from the time include Craftsman, Tudor Revivals, bungalows, and Mission homes. You'll see elements of these styles in homes, churches, museums, and schools—particularly Country Day schools from the era.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.
