"Excellent company! They came out promptly to give the estimate, which was very reasonable, and performed the work the next week. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about all varieties of trees and offered his expertise on how to trim and prune our trees without causing damage to the tree. The crew did an excellent job and their cleanup was done so well also that the yard looked better than before they did the work! I will call Harrison Tree Service for all of our future tree services."

"We normally never buy anything or agree to using a service that approaches us by a door to door sales rep, but Jose with Greenway Tree Service had a honest, professional approach and he seemed sincere. We have a lot of trees and they needed to be trimmed. I knew the last tree service I used went out of business. I let Jose look things over and give us a quote, but I wouldn't schedule the work until I researched the company. I found that Greenway had a 5 star rating and nothing but good comments from satisfied customers. We had them do our job and we're very satisfied with the outcome. We had them cut down about 8 trees and grind the stumps, along with trimming our trees and raising the canopies. They worked two full days, and I mean WORKED. Their crew worked nonstop from 7:00 A.M. until dark thirty each day. I think they only took about 30 minutes for lunch. Even the owner Omar worked by grinding the stumps and helping where needed. They did an awesome job and our neighbors complimented how much better our trees look. You will get your money's worth with Greenway Tree Service and you'll be happy with the results."

"These guys are very experienced, show up when they say they will and have fair prices. They took down what I would call a very precarious tree near my home and garage and left the place cleaned up. Got an estimate on another tree when they left. I can't imaging not hiring them again for any tree I need."

Small jobs welcome

"I recently hired Iron Brothers Construction in Nashville for tree work and stump removal, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They did an excellent job from start to finish—everything was completed efficiently and within a very reasonable timeframe. The pricing was fair and competitive, especially considering the quality of the work. What really stood out to me was how personable and professional the owner was. He made the whole process easy, communicated clearly, and made sure everything was done right. If you’re looking for reliable, high-quality tree services, I highly recommend them. I’ll definitely be using them again in the future!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

It’s not always easy to tell when a tree is dying, although signs like dropping branches and brittle bark can sometimes offer clues. It can also be difficult to know whether a tree is dead or dormant, especially if it’s a deciduous tree. You’ll want to wait until a growth season to get a good idea of a tree’s health. When in doubt, contact an arborist for a consultation.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

If your palm tree has spots on the leaves, rotting buds, or is beginning to turn yellow, then you have a sick tree on your hands. You should contact a palm tree specialist to identify the problem and help treat the tree if possible. Preventing diseases and pests is key to a healthy palm tree, and it's essential to take action as soon as possible if your tree is showing signs of being sick.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.
