However, we started to see issues when we ran into problem with the hardwood floors being redone. When the flooring folks began sanding to redo, they used too hard of a sandpaper and dug too deep in! Ray told me that the flooring was not "real" wood flooring, that it was for walls. Well that was not true as we bought the wood from canada ourselves and know better. So we got stuck with buying new flooring and it does not end there. The flooring folks dumped and left a large wet puddle of stain right in the front entrance. SO, that meant they had to sand again after we brought this up. Then they did not properly sand around the edges of the room and when stained, they edges were different colors. SO had to sand again. Now we will never be able to sand as they are down to the last time and the polyurethane is coming up now. SO will have to replace wood flooring at some point. Sooner than we would have to if it was installed and treated correctly. Soon after they "finished" we notice there was a crack in the stone flooring in the kitchen that ran across the whole room. Well they removed a load bearing post, and there cracks in the flooring/tile/drywall. We can not get the tile fixed as the tile is under the cabinets and we would have to pull those out. The drywall that they patched/redid is peeling/cracking in MANY areas. Will have to hire a drywall company to fix.
The grout in the kitchen/dining area was cracking and coming out so badly that we had to have a company pull it all out and redo. The grout around the counters is also all cracked and out so I guess I will save $ and caulk myself.
The workers reused our old baseboard and beadboard that was HEAVILY polyurethaned and they did not sand, so now all the paint is peeling. I have tried to sand myself and paint, but the wood needs to just be replaced to fix properly. The cabinet knobs in the kitchen were put on crooked. The doors are crooked, and it looked like they used some of them the saw other things. The drawers do not all work right (pull out easily and go back in easily with the not slam option we bought). I brought all of this up with Ray and once the last check is written, he said he will send someone to fix, but no one shows up to fix and now we are burdened with the extra cost on an already well funded project. Please please do homework and DO NOT just take first bid like we did. OH and to top it all off. November, at Thanksgiving we went to pull our my husbands Grandmother's silver flatware for the holiday and the case was empty! So there is another $5000 on top of first cost and then all the others. Not a company to do business with folks.

You could imagine my dismay when the glass panel box overheated and started to smoke on December 21st. Really? Right before Christmas. Anyway, I immediately got out the phone book and started calling electricians. I contacted three prior to going with Pat Murphy Electric. The first electrician had gone out of business. The second electrician promised to show up on the 22nd of December, and never showed. The third electrician did show up. He stayed for about an hour and a half. He did not provide me with anything in writing. Everything was a joke with him. He even made racial slurs. I did not want to use this guy but I was in a time crunch. As I was processing how I was going to come up with such a large sum of money, a friend of mine told me about Pat Murphy Electric.
I called Pat Murphy Electric on December 21st around 5 p.m. This lady answered and I explained my situation. She was extremely pleasant, professional and knowledgeable (I think her name was Beverly). On December 22nd, Robert Echols called me and told me that we would be at my house at 11:00 a.m. True to his word, he showed up right at 11:00 a.m. But it did not stop there. He surveyed my situation. He made several calls to the city to ensure that his plan of action would adhere to current codes. He gave me a WRITTEN estimate which detailed (elaborately) what Pat Murphy Electric would do. His estimate was less than the previous electrician and I did not have to hear racial slurs! The estimate also included warranty information. Robert Echols stated that he thought that they could get to my job on December 29th (had to check out manpower and the city's schdule being the holidays and all)but he would be back in touch with me by the next day. True to his word, he called the next day before he was supposed to. This seemed too good to be true. I checked them out with the Better Business Bureau and Angie's list. I opted to go with Pat Murphy Electric.
Pat Murphy Electric was scheduled to show up on December 29th at 7:30 a.m. They were in the driveway by 7:20 a.m. Robert Echols was there wtih two electricians. Robert oversaw the job while John Rector actually performed the task. They informed me that it might take as long as two days. If things went well (orchestrating schedules with the city, accessibilithy to the wiring, no obstacles, etc.), they would finish in one day. By 5 p.m. on that day, the job was finished. John Rector had to frame in a new breaker box and change the electrical from the pole to the house. Thank God I went with Pat Murphy because the one company that did show up before Pat Murphy quoted me a price that did not adhere to the city's code.
John Rector was awesome! He really was an electrical genius. He did not leave a mess, cleaned up after himself and explained (in layman terms) exactly what he had done.
I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Pat Murphy Electric.

Finding names on the internet and Yellow Pages, we blindly contacted 10 contractors, and five responded. Three provided estimates, and each one was relatively close to the other estimates. We selected Mr. Woods because he showed up on time, or early, for each appointment, while the others would show up late, if at all, and without a phone call. His estimate was clear with project phases broken out in a logical format, while other contractors' estimates did not address all we requested and were vague overall. During the project there was never a time when he couldn't be contacted by phone if necessary. He was responsive to all questions, and every commitment/ promise was kept. All sub-contractors he hired were excellent. Scheduling was efficient, and there were no \"down\" days with the exception of weekends and holidays. His project management skills made the difference between a smooth-running operation and what easily could have been a nightmare. Several hours past the appointment time - Had to chase him down as he FORGOT! On a field trip with his daughter, said he would cut it short at 1:30 (call me) as I took work off that day. Never called to confirmed, however, just showed up at 2:30. Nevertheless, had a long to-do list for him, he completed 2 electrical outlets, thats all. Scheduled another appointment the following Wednesday for 0730...he knew that the electrical work had to be done first in our list of projects. Come Wednesday morning at 0720, called (at least) said he had 2 sick kids and had to reschedule well after the holidays?! I indicated another day from (AGAIN) to accommodate him, he then suggested after he got one daughter to school (thought he had 2 sick kids at home?), he could POSSIBLY stop by later that afternoon? No time, no schedule? Just stop by?!! Told him to call me back after the holidays to reschedule...but alas, as of 12.02.08 no calls! Apparently that $700k rewire job is more important then my small $2000-2500.00 job? Not a problem, I'll find another one. Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts
To hang Christmas lights outside without nails, consider using alternatives like adhesive hooks, gutter clips, or even hot glue. These options allow you to secure lights to various surfaces without causing damage to your roof or siding. Be sure to clean and prepare the surface before applying these alternatives for better adhesion.
You can tackle hanging Christmas lights yourself with the right tools, accessories, and a trusted friend or neighbor. You’ll need to purchase a ladder ($100 to $300), clips ($10 to $20), hooks ($10 to $15), and lights ($25 to $100 per string).
Otherwise, you should hire a trusted holiday light installer near you. You’ll pay an average price of $200 to $650, but you’ll have peace of mind knowing that the job is done correctly and safely.
Repairing a strand of Christmas lights will save you a few dollars and the hassle of going to the store to purchase new ones. That may or may not be enough to make fixing them worth it to you. However, if the lights are already hanging or around the tree, removing and replacing them is far more time-consuming than performing a quick repair job.
DIY is possible, but professional installation ensures safety and a polished appearance, especially for large or high displays.
Professional Christmas decorators offer everything from hanging lights in and outside your home to decorating the tree and adding decor around the house. Decorators may focus on porches, foyers, staircases, mantelpieces, and other similar focal areas.
