"We had an unusual project. Install laminate flooring over our existing ceiling. Sergei was the only contractor not afraid to take on the task. Our ceilings were 16â high in some locations . He did an amazing job. He is reliable, personable and extremely hard working. I would recommend him to anyone."

"G. Ramirez Construction is definitely a top rated company! Ramirez is a Man of God and very trustworthy! Day one the deck was down in no time. I actually had our deck removed, lower part of the house repaired and the sunroom re-done. The deck and the lower part of the house was rotting as well as the sunroom floor. I was giving a copy of every detail that was going to take place, including the gas and electric company's approval in order for certain jobs to be started. The time frame for the completion of the job was two weeks and YES THE JOB WAS DONE IN TWO WEEKS. The weather and a scheduled surgery didn't stop this crew from making that two week deadline! From start to finish this crew worked very hard and long hours during the extreme heat. After six estimates I was drawn back to G. Ramirez Construction. I am so Grateful and Thankful I chose this company! They also blessed us with a few improvements we didn't ask for. This crew treated us and our home with the upmost respect!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.

Yes, you can build a deck around a fire pit, as long as it is safely enclosed, meets code requirements, and is at least 15 feet away from your home. You’ll want to ensure you have a heat-resistant barrier between the fire pit and your deck to prevent any structural damage and fires. A galvanized ring surrounded by pavers, brick, or stone makes for a beautiful, safe, and sturdy design.

A deck is typically attached to a house and accessed via the back door. Decks are usually constructed from wood or composite materials. A terrace, on the other hand, is a raised platform that can be attached to or detached from the house and is typically made from a hard-paved material, such as paving stones. Terraces can be built on the ground or on the roof of a home.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.
