"He was highly professional from start to finish. He was able to fit me in within just a few days and finished the entire job earlier than planned. All of the work was high quality and looked beautiful. His prices are reasonable. He told me that he only does one job at a time until he is done and I appreciated that."

"Moses was great! He exceeded my expectations in staining and sealing my deck. Shows up when he says he will. He offered to do additional touch ups at not additional charge. It's great to have someone with that kind of work ethic. I highly recommend MJ Remodeling and Carpentry. He also knows a lot of other highly qualified handyman if you have something around the house that needs a qualified handyman. His prices are very reasonable."

"Gary did exceptional work. I had wanted to have shiplap put up on my wall in the living room and bonus room, Gary listen to my idea and made it happen. He was very friendly and courteous, he had great ideas and help me place an order for a Chucky Mantel. I appreciate all his help and the quality of work he did. I would definitely have him to do more renovations. Wanted to say "Thank you" for a great job!"

"He did an absolutely fantastic job replacing our old deck. He was punctual, responsive, easy to work with, very fast, and our deck turned out beautifully. Absolutely will be asking him back to do other projects in the future because of how great of a job he did. Very, very happy and will be recommending him to all our neighbors!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Angel Alvarado was punctual and did a great job installing crown molding over our 50+ years old kitchen cabinets. He had to remove the old molding, to install the new. He was very patient and careful doing this and the new molding looks great. He was also very polite and friendly while doing the work and we are hiring him to do more."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.
