"Hired them to pressure wash long white vinyl fence around pasture, plus aggregate sidewalk, and clean gutters. Fence looked brand new when done and it was 20 years old. Sidewalk beautiful!! Hard workers, no short cuts, professional and friendly. Asked Mike to help put mower tire on after he was done and he jumped right in and put on for me. Highly recommend this company. Money well spent!!"

"William pressure washed the exterior of my home, including a detached car port and 2 car garage. I would highly recommend him - it was easy to set up, he did his work and got out quickly, it was not difficult trying to constantly make our schedules work, he was very prompt and I would happily hire him again!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need a permit to repair and replace a few boards on an existing deck. However, if you’re making structural changes to the deck or tearing down the old one and building a new one, you will likely need a permit. Check with your local municipality for the regulations and rules in your area, or ask a local contractor who builds decks for advice.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:

  • Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.

  • Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.

  • Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.

  • Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.

For a 12x20-foot (240-square-foot) deck, you can expect to pay between $7,200 and $14,400. This cost is based on a general price of $30 to $60 per square foot. The final price will depend on factors such as the decking material, design complexity, deck type, location, and local labor costs. Keep in mind that add-ons will increase the total; for example, adding an under-deck drainage system to a deck of this size could cost an additional $7,700.

Many composite decking manufacturers, including the popular Trex brand, offer warranties that protect against warping under specific conditions. These warranties typically last between 20 and 50 years, but they usually exclude claims related to improper installation of the product. Some manufacturer warranties only cover decks built by certified professionals.
