"This man is amazing he showed up and fixed what can only be considered a completely botched concrete job! He not only did what he said he was going to do but fixed a few items he found along the way that weren’t right. I highly recommend using his company. He is honest, reliable, and trustworthy. We will be hiring him for a few more jobs in the near future."

"Very professional, quality work and quality materials. Continued to work during extremely cold weather and finished work within a reasonable time frame. Will give a follow up review in March when they come back to stain the steps once the pressure treated wood has dried out. They exceeded my expectation."

"I just started out looking for someone who could pressure wash a small fence that was too far away from my house to hook up to a water source. I needed someone who had a large water tank. Alex Rivera came to my home on the day and time the appointment was set. He was very nice young man. He knew it was a small job but that did not seem to bother him. Before I knew it, he was giving me an estimate to pressure wash my entire house, including my front brick porch, upper front porch, two brick retaining walls, and all of the white trim and columns on my all brick home. Other people I called did not even show up. Alex definitely exceeded all of my expectations. He did such quality work. My front porch and my two brick retaining walls have not looked this good since the home was built over 30 years ago. Not only was he professional, he was also very thoughtful about not getting any chemicals on my shrubbery, which was very important to me. He also had all the equipment necessary to get the job done quickly and efficiently. After seeing what a good job he did, I have now scheduled him to come out again and pressure wash my roof and stain my back deck and upper front porch. If you are looking for someone to do pressure washing, I highly recommend you call Rivera's Exterior Wash. I give them 5 stars."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, pressure washing a wood deck can be a good idea as it effectively lifts ingrained dirt, mold, and mildew, improving the deck's appearance and longevity. However, it must be done carefully, as it's easy to damage the wood, especially softwoods. To pressure wash safely, use a lower pressure setting and a wide, 40-degree fan pattern nozzle (often white). Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from the wood surface and maintain constant motion, avoiding hovering in one spot to prevent gouging.

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

When building an outdoor or deck gate, it's crucial to use durable wood that can withstand harsh weather conditions like sunlight, rain, wind, and snow. Redwood and cedar are excellent choices as they naturally resist decay. While redwood is considered more elegant, cedar is a more affordable option. Other suitable woods include oak and pressure-treated pine, which is specifically treated to resist rot. Although some softwoods like pine are popular, untreated softwoods such as pine and spruce should generally be avoided for outdoor projects because they are susceptible to damage from water, rot, and the sun. Ultimately, it's wise to consider your local climate when selecting the right wood for your gate.

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.
