Unlike drying, which takes between 48 and 72 hours on average, asphalt driveway cure times are different and take much longer. Your asphalt driveway won’t actually cure for around six months to one year. During this time, it’s more likely to get damaged or weakened by heavy machinery, vehicles, and high temperatures. 

Though they may look similar, tar and bitumen come from different sources. Bitumen is a petroleum product—extracted during crude oil refining—and is mostly made up of hydrocarbons. Both are used as binders in paving; however, bitumen is the standard for today’s asphalt. Tar use has mostly faded out of road construction.
