I have been in the construction field for over 4 years now. Specializing in floor installation, painting, renovating bathroom/kitchen, roof and decking. I was a police officer for over 13 years in Florida but have decided to follow my skills and interests in construction since we have relocated to this wonderful area.

"Fantastic. On time, got it done right. Would recommend"

Roberts Carpentry Services serves its customers with pride, integrity and attention to the details that matter most. This is one of the many things that sets us apart from other companies. We are locally owned and operated. Just give us a call today! Bathroom Remodeler, Kitchen Remodeling, Remodeling Service, Residential Remodeling, Commercial Remodeler, Carpentry Service, Masonry Service, Room Additions, Kitchen Counter Cabinets, Handicap Bathroom

"This team helped to complete a bathroom project that had been going on for several months. I went through 4 other contractors until I found this wonderful husband and wife team. I can tell you there are so many bad, dishonest, and armature contractors in this region but Robert’s Carpentry Services know their stuff and are professionals in what they do. They have many years or experience and most of all – wait for it…… they are indeed licensed. I found other contractors will lie and tell you they have a license but they do not, these people do and they keep it up every year. I only wish I had started with them 7 months ago; they are so easy to get along with and true down to earth people."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, 1/2-inch thick drywall is commonly used for ceilings in residential construction. It provides adequate support and is easier to handle and install compared to thicker drywall sheets. Thicker drywall, such as 5/8-inch, is typically used for ceilings in commercial buildings or areas requiring additional fire resistance or soundproofing. However, for most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely accepted.

You can drywall an unheated garage because the material handles cold temperatures perfectly well. There are no risks or downsides to installing drywall in a garage that is not heated, and the material stands up to moisture and other elements quite well. Drywall will protect your unheated garage's electric wires and cables and add fire protection. However, for effective bonding, you should install drywall at a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

While every home has its own unique needs, ceiling drywall installation typically follows a staggered or stepped pattern to enhance structural integrity and reduce the visibility of seams. Starting from one corner, sheets are placed perpendicular to the ceiling joists, with the ends of adjacent sheets meeting along the center of the joist. The next row begins with a half sheet, ensuring joints don't align vertically. This alternating pattern, combined with proper taping and mudding, creates a seamless appearance and strengthens the ceiling structure, minimizing the risk of cracks over time.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

A 50-pound mirror can be hung on drywall, but only if it has the support of strong hardware. Ideally, you can find the studs behind the drywall and attach the mirror to them; this will give your mirror better stability. Otherwise, confirm that you are using anchors appropriate to the weight of the mirrors. Another technique is to use French cleats—two pieces of wood that fit together, with one piece attached to the wall and the other to the mirror. This allows the weight to be distributed over a wider area.
